Opinion on a name

DH and I are still working on names and I refuse to get opinions from family anymore, last time we asked an opinion my MIL decided that was the name and started calling LO by that name-- even though we told EVERYONE we wouldn't be calling LO by name until we were 100% sure or he was born... but I digress.. anyway, what do you think of the name Troy Alexander Brutus.  Note: I do not like Alexander as a first name and Brutus is our last name-- not a weird double middle name thing.  Does it flow well?

  • I think it flows well. Just so you know make sure that you are ok with  his intitals spelling TAB like the old soda.

  • lol... I am aware, another name we had considered had the same initials... I am not really concerned about that, considering that many people don't really know your middle name unless you tell them. And growing up my initials were BS, it took until college for people to really notice that (of course I was well aware from a young age).... maybe I just wasn't around observant/ creative people until then.  But I think kids (and sometimes adults) will find something to make fun of.

  • I like it! It is VERY masculine and strong.

  • I get a really strong classical history vibe from it- Troy, PLUS Alexander, PLUS Brutus. It's a bit of overkill for me- are you or your DH classical history buffs?

DH is a High-school history teacher and my dad is a history buff, but I picked the name out.  I like the name Troy (always have) and it's not too common, I wanted a name that no one I knew had ( I also work with kids and so many names, especially common names are just ruined for me).  Brutus we really don't have much of a choice in...lol

This. Exactly. I was like huh? Hearing someone named Troy Brutus  is very overkill to me. The names are great on their own though.

*Sigh* I get this with every name we have picked out... I naturally gravitate to strong/ historical names.  With the last name Brutus everything sounds hyper masculine or out of a Greek/ Roman history book.

  • I agree, its a bit of an historical overkill.  I love the Alexander part but not so much Troy :)

  • I agree with the history overkill. They're all three from a specific place/era which is sticking out more than if it were a different historical name.

  • Yes, it has a strong historical vibe. But I think it makes the name very unique & strong with a nice flow. Not a name I'd pick myself but I think it sounds good for another.
  • It sounds like a man wearing armor and carrying a sword :)  Like a famous Roman warrior.

I like the names Troy and Alexander.  Together with Brutus?  I dont dislike it, but it definitely paints a picture in my head of what I instantly think he would look like, and its not urkel ;)

  • I love the name Troy, its my brothers name :) i think it all flows just fine. personally, i think the flow of a name is aquired as well, my mom got remarried and my last name changed. At first i thought it sounded awful, but now i think it sounds much better than it did before, so I never worry about flow anyways!

Definitely. I would probably giggle a bit if I heard the name.

  • That's a lot of old names going on. Troy- City of Troy. Alexander- Alexander the Great. Brutus- family of the Roman Republic. It's not my style. I wouldn't use Troy, at all.
