Maryland Babies

s/o re 2nd, 3rd showers

Two of my daycare mom friends are having 2nd babies this Spring.  I have been toying w/ the idea of hosting a "Sprinkle" for them.  Their older kids will be ~3.5 when they have their babies.  I know one is having a boy (first baby is a girl) and the 2nd, they are not finding out.  If I suggest it to them, and they are opposed to it, do you think there's a polite way for them to decline?  Or do you think if someone offers to have a party in your honor, the polite thing is just to accept graciously?

  • Well I think there is a polite way to do almost anything, so sure, they could decline politely.

Are you afraid they'll "accept graciously" but cringe inwardly at the offer if they subscribe to the school of thought that it's tacky?

FWIW, I think "sprinkles" are different than showers and a joint sprinkle is definitely different.  I know the lines in my mind are weird and hazy, but they're there.

    This.

My cousin had a Sprinkle when pregnant with her 2nd (another boy at that).  They just put on the invites no gifts, just bring yourself but that anyone that brought a pkg of diapers would be entered into a drawing for a prize.  A bunch of people ended up bringing gifts but she did get lost of diapers.  But, it was just suppose to be a fun time for people to come celebrate her pregnancy, play a few silly pregnancy/baby games, eat food & cake.

  • I think it depends on the person. My sister is having her 3rd in May and her friends are having a sprinkle for her. I know my sister is dying and hates the whole idea of it and is mildly embarassed but she's also not the type to say no to someone.

Maybe you could sort of beat around the bush and try and gauge how they might feel about it.

  • You could always say to friend A that you are thinking about throwing a sprinkle for friend B and what does she think about that. If she likes the idea, then tell her that you were planning on throwing her one too but wanted an honest reaction to the idea. And them have the same conversation with the other friend.
