I have preeclampsia and my fluid is quickly dropping. At my appointment last week I was at a 9.5, Tuesday I was at a 6.5 and I have another ultrasound tomorrow. My doctor said once I got to 5 I would need to deliver my LO. I am just curious what everyone's NICU stay was like at this gestation and how long the stay was. Thanks!!
Re: 34,35 and 36 weekers- please come in!
35w4d with my DD. No NICU time. We did have steroid shots at about 30 weeks help her lung development though.
I hope your fluid stays up so your baby can bake a bit longer.

No more TTC for us. We are done, and at peace, as a family of 4.

This is so encouraging. We had steroid shots at 30 weeks as well.
35w4d, no NICU time - he did spend 5 days (I think? is it bad I'm not sure?) in the intermediate nursery with some fairly minor (jaundice, blood sugar, eating) issues. I did not have steroid shots.
I had an amnio prior to delivery (showing the lungs were mature) and I know that at this gestation (like 34-36 weeks) preemies are really all.over. the map as far as what to expect.
I think as a general rule, most do pretty well.
Hi,
My LO was born at exactly 35 weeks. He was 3lbs 12 ozs and stayed in the NICU for 31 days as a feeder/grower.
I must qualify that though - the IUGR (hence his low weight for a 35 weeker) is primarily what kept him in the hospital that long. At that size they just don't have a lot of stamina to take all the bottles, regulate their temperature, etc. Had he not been IUGR, I suspect he would have come week within the week.
Furthermore, I was closely watched for low fluid from 28 weeks until I delivered. I mention this because my fluid was around an 8 or 9 at 28 weeks. It hung out in the 5-8 range until 35 weeks! Then it dropped from like a 4.5 to 1 in 12 hours (I was on hospital bed rest/monitoring the last week).
So, don't give up hope - your fluid may go back up or stay steady around 5 or 6. You're far enough along where they won't take any chances, so they will probably err on the side of delivery (I wasn't at 28 weeks, obviously). Regardless though, a normal sized 34-35 weeker will likely be home with you in no time!
GL!!!!!!!!!
34 weeks 5 days
16 days in the NICU
She was 3lbs
See below!
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks.
I had my second daughter at 36 weeks and she was able to come home with me.No issues, besides a little bit of jaundice.
My doctor had a 35 weeker and she was able to come home right away, as well.
I so hope you can make it to at least 35 weeks! Good luck, I can imagine how scared you are.
pPROM at 27 weeks, Birdy born at 28 weeks at 2lb 7oz.
My first was born at 34 weeks and she came home with us after 2 days!!!
Best of LUCK!!!!
I had my first at 36 weeks. She was 5 lb. 2 oz. at birth and came home with us. My second was born at 34 weeks and was 5 lbs at birth. She has a 7 day NICU stay.
good luck!

My LO was 36 weeks, born at 5lb, 3.6 oz. She did great with breathing/temp regulation but was very sleepy at the breast and required lots of stimulation to get through a feed. She still would have gone home with us but she developed high bilirubin levels (jaundice- very common with preemies) and stayed in the special care nursery for 5 days after we were discharged. She was supplemented with formula after nursing for a day or two while I pumped after feedings.
She's done great since coming home. She's small, but I think it's more genetics at this point because I was, too. She was 16 lbs at a year, but she's walking, talking, happy and healthy.
Good luck and congrats on making it this far!
34w6days here. DS was 6lbs7oz at birth and stayed in the NICU 6 days because of hypoglycemia, high bilirubin levels and then finally, too much weight loss (added one day to our stay). He only needed an IV for the 1st 2 days, and though we narrowly missed having a feeding tube placed at the end, he did not need any other assistance throughout his stay (other than warming beds and the UV lights of course). I was admitted at 34w4days and at that gestation I couldn't get steriod shots (I asked for them in triage), but I was able to participate in a blind study on the affects of steriod shots in late term preemie births. I don't know whether I got the shot or the placebo, but I think I got the steriods and that helped.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
My Blog
every preemie is different. my first two were 34 weekers #1 had a 10 day stay and #2 had a 7 day stay. Both were mostly feeders and growers however, #1 did have some fluid in his lungs so was on cpap for about 1.5 days. My 3rd was a 35 weeker and came home w/ me.
Be sure you're drinking tons of fluids. With my last my fluid levels dropped very quickly. At one point they were so low they couldn't even measure it. They had me hooked up to monitors galore. They gave me a huge cup of water and told me to drink it and they'd be right back w/ another huge glass or they could hook me up to ivs. I hate needles so I downed glass after glass of water. when they measured my fluid the next morning it was in normal range. Just stay off your feet as much as you can and keep an almost constant intake of water going for your fluid.
My LO's were born at 35w1d and they were in the NICU for 11 days for feeding and gorwth. They were both born under 4 pounds and need to gain some weight before they could be discharged.
