Please recommend you fave wrap.. I've been looking at Moby I prefer  those style to the one shoulder I think.  How many did you buy?  what about when you went out to dinner. did you use a car seat for still baby wear? Sorry I have A LOT of questions...

Re: help!

  • I loved my Moby wrap when DD was little. I wore her through quite a few dinners! She absolutely hated her car seat from just a couple weeks old so leaving her in her car seat was not an option. She screamed the whole time she was in it. There are a lot of good options, just depends on what you want. The down side to Moby wraps is that they're more difficult to put on.

  • Im using the moby and so far dd loves it and I've worn her to dinner several times. Like the pp said the moby can be hard to put on but I usually just put it on in the morning when I get dressed and keep it on so whenever I need to have my hands free I can put her in.

  • I'm a big fan of the moby for at home, but I tend not to wear it out (unless I'm walking the dog - because it's pretty warm and covers his legs - which as I'm thinking about is less of an issue for a brand new baby who will have legs covered in any carrier).

We have 2 mobys, one is "mine" and one is "DH's" however he doesn't use his since once the baby was here he ended up preferring to use the Pikkolo.

When I'm not at home, I tend to use my mei-tai (a Babyhawk) because it's a little more structured but still easy to put on.

When we go out to dinner, DH uses the Pikkolo or I use the Babyhawk.  We don't use the carseat for a number of reasons - our kid HATES the carseat, there's never a good place to put it (since I don't like it on the floor, I won't use an upside down high chair or rest it on a regular chair, and there often isn't enough room on a booth), and he sleeps in the carriers which means we don't have to worry about entertaining him or keeping his quiet while we eat.

  • The moby wrap is great for small babies. I bought 1 with my first son. I was a little disappointed that I only used it for a few months before it felt unsupportive (altho my son was huge by the time he was 4 months old).

I did use it out of the house a few times, but it was awkward wrapping it beside the car. It is doable, just awkward. A few times I wrapped it before I left the house, and threw my coat over top -- that worked okay. It does take a while to get used to, and to find the right holds for you & baby. So give it a few weeks, and try out lots to figure out if it will work for you.

There are LOTS of other styles of carriers. I have a cheap shoulder sling type (i don't recommend it), but the Maya Slings are a lot more comfortable (and expensive) and safer (IMO). The structured carriers are very nice too (Beco, Ergo, Pikkolo, etc) and you can use some on your back or front, and they support newborn to toddlers (better bang for your buck).

DH refuses to wear the moby wrap, but he has no problem using the Beco carrier.
