Hello all - my husband was
recently relocated to MN. We are in the Plymouth/Maple Grove area and
wanted to know if anyone had recommendations for an OB/GYN as well as
hospitals.
We have two little ones (ages 4 and 2) and wanted to
also know if there is a Mom's Group in the area. I tried doing a search
but was unsuccessful.
Great OBGYN at the Unity Hospital in Fridley/Spring Lake Park area. (20 minute drive for you.) Ive gone there for years for birth control, shots, checkups, etc.& the staff is great! Check it out.
Hi & welcome to MN. I live just south of you & have a son who will turn 3 in May. I don't know much about OBGYN & Hospitals that are near you other then the MG one is less then 3 years old. in my Sig you will find a link to my "fun things to do around town" I am not working right now so I am trying to update it with new things but some of the "big" (free) things are MOA has kids events every Tuesday, Ikea has kids events the 2ed& 4th Wed, Creative kids stuff has a really cool playtime on Weds & store time on Thursday.
Maple Grove Hospital is probably the closest hospital to you. My SIL goes to Oakdale OB/Gyn and I believe they have locations in both MG and Plymouth. They also deliver at North Memorial Hosp in Robbinsdale. My SIL brings her kids to Partners in Pediatrics and they also have multiple locations in your area.
For a moms group, I'd highly recommend looking into the Grace Fellowship MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) group in Brooklyn Park. They host two groups that meet on Mon or Tues and offer a Moppets program for kids birth-K while you attend the meeting. It's a very welcoming group of women and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time there. They also just started the spring semester and have room for newcomers if you'd like to join.
Wife to an amazing man and mom to three darling girls!
Welcome!! I grew up in Maple Grove and really love the area. There is so much to do (a lot of restaurants and shopping) in that area.
My OBGYN practice is out of North Clinic, Maple Grove (right next to the MG Hospital). It is standard for multiple OBs to see you at your monthly check ups, so I have met a few so far and they all have been very nice/knowledgable.
I will deliver at MG hospital and wouldn't pick anywhere else (unless I have some sort of emergency, of course...then I would definitely pick North Memorial in Robbinsdale). My BFF and one of my cousins delivered at MG Hospital last year and both had nothing but great things to say about their experiences.

I see Dr. Monica Norwick at the Park Nicollet Clinic in St. Louis Park. I really like her and Julie Halverson (who is one of the Nurse Practitioners at that office). They deliver at Methodist Hospital. I was at the hospital 5 days when I was induced & delivered DS, and I only had two nurses that I didn't really like (both were nice, our personalities just clashed).
For pediatricians, I recommend South Lake Pediatrics in Plymouth (right by the intersection of 494 & 55 in the West Health Building). We have seen Liz Hass (CPNP & she is also a LC) since DS was born and I really like her. The few doctors we have seen at that office when DS was sick & having stitches removed are also nice.
I know there are several different local moms groups. I am a part of an online group called Minnie Moms. There are moms on there from all over the Twin Cities and surrounding area. We get together occasionally for play dates and mom's nights out (MNO).

You could check with your school district about ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education). I have met lots of mom friends through my class--and they have day and evening classes.

We had our son in September at the Maple Grove Hospital and had an excellent experience. Our OB was Dr. Agbeh (pronounced Awwgbay) from Fairview Clinic, which was two blocks away, and I liked him a lot. Welcome to MN btw!

I do want to mention that I also saw him for a period during my first pregnancy and was not impressed with him and then after finding out that his medical license was taken away in a different state we switched immediately. I go to North Metro Midwives now. I know that everyone has different experiences no matter what but did feel I should mention something.
Re: New to MN - Would love some recommendations :)

This might be helpful to you. The reason Dr Agbeh's license was suspended was due to an issue in Iowa (a cultural misunderstanding w/a coworker).
Anyway I liked him and this issue didnt concern me. He is a good doctor.
This website will tell you what doctors in Minnesota are under discpline and the reasons.
It's very helpful for when you are looking for a doctor!
