3rd Trimester

To Overweight/Obese Mommas.

I was just curious about how far along it took you to show with your pregnancy. I'm about a 24/26 and have actually lost 30 lbs since getting pregnant, but I still have a very big belly.

I'm so afraid and sad that I will never show.

Let me know about your experiences!

Thanks.

Re: To Overweight/Obese Mommas.

  • I'm size 18 and I was about 26 weeks when I started looking pregnant and not just overweight, and then by 30ish weeks I had a perfectly round bump.

  • I am also a size 18 and I would say around 20 weeks my belly was round but by 25 or 26 a complete stranger would know I was preggo. Now I look very preggo!

  • I'm not overweight, but I am a tall/big person (5'10" 160 lbs pre-pregnancy) and I didn't look pregnant until 25-ish weeks.

I still don't wear maternity tops/dresses about %50 of the time.

  • I was a size 18.  I've lost 20 lbs since becoming pregnant. My bump became obvious areound 5 months ...I'm seven month along now & I look very pregnant! People are always trying to touch my baby bump, yet I can still wear my regular jeans  :-)
  • I'm 5'10" and was around 185lbs when I got pregnant. It took me until about 32 weeks to be 'noticeably' pregnant. With my first (5'10", 135lbs) it still took around 25 weeks. Sadly I just don't wear pregnant well.

  • I was a 22 pre-pregnancy.  5'4" and weighed about 232.  At 38.5 weeks, I'm up to 252 but I'm 100% belly.  At my 20 week appt to find out the sex, it was very clear that I was pregnant.  Now, I'm asked constantly if I'm having twins because my belly is nothing but baby and I poke out so obviously.

Every woman is different, but give your body a little time.  And don't be surprised if you wake up one day with a baby belly and not just a belly!

  • I am 5'10 and weighed 215lbs when I got pregnant (size 18).  DH and I noticed the beginnings of a bump around 14 weeks and the girls at work didn't notice it until around 20 weeks.  I started getting one or two comments around 24 weeks (both from older people) though no one else commented.

Even being 41 weeks currently, most people don't realize I am pregnant until I stand up and turn to the side. The ultrasound tech remarked that I don't look pregnant, much less overdue, though she said it is probably because my fluid is a little below average.

  • I'm not overweight at all, but I didn't show at all until around 28 weeks.  I didn't have a stranger ask me if I was pregnant until 31 weeks, so don't feel bad.  Some of us just take a lot longer to show than others.
  • I was a 16/18 pre-pregnancy and can still fit into most of my pre-pregnancy clothes (granted, it helps that I wear a lot of pants with elastic waistbands!). I am now at the point where people who know me and know that I'm pregnant will tell me that I'm starting to show but people who didn't know I was pregnant are still surprised when they find out (and especially when I tell them how far along I am). The baby belly that I notice has definitely appeared more in the past 2-3 weeks (so starting around 23-24 weeks).

  • I think it really depends on how you are built. My sister and I wear the same size pants, but I'm much smaller on top than she is. She is a traditional "apple" while I am a true "pear."  Neither of us gained much weight with our pregnancies, but my sister never really got a "pregnant" look.  She hardly had to wear maternity clothes at all.  I had no choice with the way my body changed and being so much smaller on top.  I've had strangers asking me when my baby is due for 8 weeks or so. I would suggest empire waist tops to emphasize the pregnancy. Also I think a belly band helps to smooth out the bump so it looks more baby and less "fat" Smile
  • I'm a size 18 and weighed 219 pre-pregnancy.  I also happen to carry most of my weight in my stomach, and I have been asked several times if I was pregnant when I was NOT pregnant, including one of my aunts that insisted I was trying to hide it from her!

This pretty much exactly for me too.

  • I was a 16/18 before pregnancy. I didn't become obvious (to strangers) till 32 weeks. I noticed a bump around 20 weeks. My bump is a very odd shape though. It's kind of tapers in a bit a the belly button but I am still not that large (even though I have gained 28lbs) and I carry it all in the front.

  • It all depends on your body type, not even really on your weight.  You can also carry differently with each pg.  I used to ask people if I looked pg when it was earlier in my pg and most of them said no, they couldn't tell.  So I would just remark, oh, so you are saying that I just look fat, lol.  I have received comments lately that people could tell, but these are people who know I'm pg.  I would say that started around 26wks. I'm very short and very obese.  I too lost weight during my pregnancies.

For people who don't know you are pg, I'm sure they don't want to say anything so that they don't hurt your feelings in case they are wrong.  When you are big all over, it's hard to tell if your stomach is round from pg or weight.

  • I'm an 18/20. With my first pregnancy, I lost around 20 lbs right off and lated gained back 12 lbs.  I wore regular clothes until at least 30 weeks and never felt like I looked pregnant until the very end. This time I'm carrying much higher and have had  a pretty obvious bump since about 24 weeks.

  • Before getting pregnant I was a 12/14 and short lol.  But I have always had huge boobs so it took my longer to look pregnant instead of just fat.  I am almost 28 weeks and people stare at me, but nobody has said anything to me yet.  But I look pregnant, I have the round belly for sure.
