DS had his evaluation today for starting the special needs preschool through the county this morning. We have done private therapy until this point for speech and OT.
This is a xp from another group I'm in:
Update on Quinn's eval this morning. It went "meh"
Apparently the info I brought from his psychologist wasn't what they needed to qualify him for services under an Austim diagnosis. This is annoying b/c his psych can do the eval that they needed but they didn't tell me that ahead of time or I would have brought the right one. However, he could still qualify under the term "Developmentally Delayed" based on his speech and sensory issues. BUT again his OT didn't do the test the state requires so they have to do a 2nd eval which they couldn't schedule until Feb 17th. After they do that eval we have to come back on the 28th for the final meeting in which they tell us if he is eligible and if he is than we do his IEP and he can start.
Today they did a new speech eval (and their speech lady said she can tell he's made a lot of progress based on the eval sent by his current SLP). They also did an eval for his social/emotional skills. We had to complete a bunch of forms including redoing the GARS-2. We talked and discussed our concerns and his behaviors. It took 2 hours to leave with no answer. I have called his pysch to find out if he already did the ADOS (test we need) or if he can. If not than we'll have to have the school do it which will further delay everything.
If he does start the earliest would be the beginning of March and then they have a 1 week spring break in March and then school ends May 24th until Aug. This is also not great b/c his current speech therapist goes on Maternity leave from Feb 15th till the middle of June which leaves him with to much time with no speech. He doesn't do well if he misses more than 1 week. So my current thought is ugh, ugh, ugh.
His current therapy clinic doesn't have enough therapists to cover all his SLP's patients during her maternity leave so I don't know what we are going to do. The other option is to look into preschool through UCP (united cerebal palsy) but that costs $$ even for part time and I'm not sure if we'd qualify for the scholarship.
Thank you for reading this and sorry it is so stinking long. Oh and my further aggravation is because they said "our schedule is just so busy as you can see" Ummm yes I know that is why I started calling to start this process in Oct when you told me he was to young BUT I have now read the laws and they could have started doing all this when he turned 30 months old which was August!!!!! Technically he should start recieving services from them on Feb 19th when he turns 3 ![]()
