Background: I have problems with a really heavy flow and I have medication to take when it gets really bad. The problem is that I can only take the medication for 5 days in a row and my period lasts more like 10-15 so I like to wait to start it as long as possible. This is my first cycle using the diva cup (which I love so far!) and I'm having a hard time telling how heavy my flow is because I'm used to comparing it to how often I have to change a tampon.
So, if you don't mind me asking, how full is your cup and how often are you changing it? How does this compare to the number of tampons you were using? I'm emptying it every 2 hours or so (bliss!) and it's about halfway between the 1/4 and 1/2 oz line each time.
Re: Waaaaay TMI question for Diva Cup Users
I only used the cup for one (heavy flow) day, and I emptied it every 6 hours. It was full, and I kind of wonder if the Tarantino-esque mess that ensued each time was because I should've done it sooner.
A quick google search says that most tampons hold about 1 oz.
There was a definite learning curve as far as the mess goes. Day 3 has been way better than day 2. Way less mess than what I usually dealt with with the tampons, but I'm kind of an extreme case.
Huh. The insert that came with the diva cup says that "the entire average monthly flow is approximately 1 to 1.4 ounces."
When I was using tampons, on my heaviest days I was changing them every two hours. With the Diva Cup, I empty it every 4 hours (again, on my heaviest days). I want to say the cup is about 1/2 to 3/4 full when I do this.
