We are having a difficult time with names this time around. I peeked on the baby names board and am horrified on what people think are "good" names.
Why are names getting so crazy out there and made up?
My favorite boy's name dh vetoed with a "hate"....and I don't get it. I won't push for it since I don't him to hate our child's name but I want proof behind his ignorant thoughts. He believes Benjamin is only an African American name. I swear I have never met an AA Ben (and it wouldn't matter if I did). Ugh, he is being stupid.
Here is my rough list so far....he wants to come up with his own but I doubt he will.
Girls....
Sophie/a
Lillian
Genevieve
Katherine (Kate/ie)
Cassandra (my name is in it....is that weird?)
Boys...
Joshua Matthew
Justin Matthew
Katherine is a family name, and Matthew was my grandmothers maiden name. Sarah is also a family name but not my fav as a first name. Our last name has 2 b's in it. Suggestions?

I love Katherine and actually wanted to use that but it's my SIL's name so no go. I think it is such a timeless name. My next choice for a girl is Sophia.
For the boys names, I like Joshua. I have a weird issue with a Justin from growing up so it's not my fav.
I think that both of those names sound good with your last name too
Sophie/a - I love this name
Lillian - Great name, we would have considered it for a girl if DH's cousin didn't already take it!
Genevieve - NMS but it is a good name. Would you call her G(J)en?

Basically I love almost all of your name choices, I'm no help...
Josh vetoed Benjamin for us too! But it was bc he didn't like the nn Benny which I said we could use Ben, but he said kids at school would say Benny. We both liked the nn Kate, but not Katherine bc of the nn Kathy.
My cousins told my extended family about their possible choice of Sophia and they heard a lot of soph ee a / soph i a crap. They ended up with a boy haha.
I like Lillian a lot. My niece that was just born is named Lillia. I like the full name and nn of Lillian.
I don't like Genevieve or Justin. Joshua was not an option for us, but I do like it. Now that you said your name is in it, I like Cassandra less, but it's not obvious. Like I could never to Christopher bc it's too close to my name.
Nooooo, I can't do it. I even asked for a guess at the nt scan!
Well, this is no help but I love Ben!
For girls - I would rank them Sophia, Kate, Lillian, Genevieve, Cassandra. Cassandra isn't my fave because of your name being in it. Would you call her Cassie? That might make it better.
I like Joshua better than Justin for boys.
Have you gone to nymbler (or nimbler?) .com? You can plug in a name you like and similar sounding names come up. Love that site.
I like sophia, LOVE Kate and like Lilly. Not a huge fan of Genevieve- its too much for me. Cassandra is too out of date. I like your boy names but - but I'm kind of meh on them.

Yeah, thats so weird that your DH thinks that about the name Benjamin.. i think its generally the opposite... although I do know a Ben who is half AA.
Sophie/a - like it a lot.
Lillian - Like it but dont love it.
Genevieve - LOVE,, but i think its out for us since it ends in Eve. (and my MIL is Jennifer)
Katherine (Kate/ie) - I think Kate is a super cute name. I don't like Katie.. I don't know how I feel about Katherine. I think I would just use Kate, if it were me.

Justin Matthew - Not my worlds favorite name, but MrsWhites little guy has made it grow on me. I sorta always thought it was an 80s name though.. There were a ton in my class at school and i know a lot of Justins arouund my age.

I'm surprised you had that impression of the baby names board. Maybe you caught a few random posts or something, but usually the board is known for hating crazy names. They usually slam anyone that asks about a misspelled/madeup/Neveah type name. I actually love the board and appreciate the honest feedback.
From you list I like Katherine (Katie) best. Next I would say Lillian and then Sophie/a, but those are way overdone IMO. Genevieve is nms.
I really like Joshua Matthew. Justin is nice, but sounds very 80s to me. I love Sarah and Benjamin (Ben) the best!

Girls....
Sophie/a - love but super popular right now
Lillian - Also love - classic but cute
Genevieve - I had a cheerleader named Genevieve - we call her Evie - she's a great kid, so I like the name
Katherine (Kate/ie) - while classic, I ave just never been a fan of this name, and it may see a popularity surge due to prince William and Kate Middleton?
Cassandra (my name is in it....is that weird?) - not weird about having your name it... No one blinks an eye at JRs for boys, why should it matter if a girl has a similar name to her mom? But the name overall is just ok for me - reminds me of the 80s

Of your list, my favorite is Katherine. For a nn, I personally prefer Kate, but I also went to school with a million Katies so that might be influencing me. I really like all the girls names.
I definitely like Joshua over Justin and I love the way Josh/Joshua sounds with R.
I'm interested in hearing your DH's choices :-) DH always vetoed but hardly ever came up with any on his own. It can be frustrating!

I don't think with your last name i'd do Ben. I like Joshua Matthew, and I like cassandra.
i obviously love Sophie/a. It is a popular name if you care about that. I didn't care since it is a family name and it wasn't popular when I chose it

Cassandra-we had a dalmation named cassie so that is what I think when I hear it
Katherine-I like Kate or Katherine. This might also turn out to be a super popular name b/c of the princess

Thanks everyone! My opinion of the name board may be from the fact I like classic names and I read posts with things like Walker and Weston, or names that sound like they belong as last names.
A Genevieve would be called Jenna or the like I think, he doesn't like it either so I doubt we will go with it.
He hasn't said I word about names since, I will revisit it with him after our 20 week u/s when we know what we have to name!

I'm a little late to the party but I actually like all of those names. And I LOVE the name Sarah. If E would have been a girl, I would have went with Sarah. I really like the name Kate and like Lillian and Sophia too. I know a Genevieve and she goes by "Jeanie." And I really like Jenna too.,
DH is Joshua so I I'm a fan. A dated a Justin and a Matthew so I wouldn't ever choose them but they are both great names.
