LO is in the NICU and we've been trying to nurse but I can't be there for every feeding so we obviously haven't gotten into a pattern yet. So I've been pumping (every 3 hrs for about 30 mins), but I only get about .5 oz total per session - which at about 8 pumping sessions a day barely totals 4 oz. this pales in comparison to the almost 2 oz per feeding that he is taking.
What's normal for this point? I was going to start taking fenugreek and I've already been hydrating. Anything else?
Thanksfor the help.
Re: Normal production for 1wk pp?
It's normal for your milk to take longer to come in with a preemie. Hang in there, keep pumping.
If your baby could nurse every feed, he'd be eating less oz more often. The 2 oz per feed are a result of the bottle feeding (which is fine, it's just the reason that your output and his input don't match right now). Keep on pumping and nursing and you'll probably see a huge difference within a week.
Rest, fluids, enough calories, and as much skin-to-skin as you can get with your baby will all help.

That was my normal at that point as well. This morning as I pumped 10oz, I looked at dh and said, "remember when we would measure in ml's?"
It gets better I promise! Just keep pumping round the clock, eat plenty and drink plenty (I had a hard time with this as I was not hungry at all pp)
Good luck and I hope your LO is home soon!
This! My DD spent a week in the NICU, and I remember only getting a tiny syringe of colostrom. This morning I pumped 6 oz after she ate. So quickly how things change! I wouldn't worry too much about it yet, just keep hydrating, and pumping as often as you can. When DD was still in the hospital, I pumped as often as I could to get my supply up. I would even feed her and then pump, especially since all I did was sit around her room anyway! I think at 1 week I was only getting an ounce or 2.
