Before I had Baby I wanted to go the BLW route. DH was not on board. Since he was enthusiastic and supportive of cloth diapering, breast feeding, co-sleeping, etc, and since he has defended our decision to not CIO despite his family and co-workers telling him we're crazy....I figured I would count my blessings and not push it!
So, I have made all of Baby's food, but until recently most of it has been pureed/mashed/run through the food mill. I'm trying to get him to take finger foods but he seems to be less interested in solids in general. I can get him to tear an avocado up, but otherwise he takes a few bites and then fusses and wants to stop. I try not to push it and respect his appetite, but I want to make sure I'm giving him ample time to practice.
He hasn't rejected any foods outright...he seems to have a great palate so far, he just doesn't feel like eating solids in general much of the time.
Just a phase or is there something I should be doing differently?
Re: help with solids
Some babies just aren't into solids until later - like after 12 months later. I would just keep offering.
And now that your baby is 9+ months, it's fine to just do (low salt, low sugar) table food whether you're technically BLW or not. That can also take some pressure off - you don't have to make special food for him.

Baby-led weaning. It means skipping purees and going straight to the baby self-feeding finger foods. The book is good (your library might have it) https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Led-Weaning-Essential-Introducing-Confident/dp/161519021X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328368421&sr=8-1
It makes some people very nervous to just hand a 6 month old food, though, which is why it can sometimes be hard to get other people on board.

Thanks. This is what I keep telling myself but when he eats 2 bites and then wants to stop I start doubting myself. I know the breastmilk is all he really needs but there is just something satisfyign about seeing him chow down when it does happen!
Some other food ideas,... shredded cheese, banana bits (or other fruit), chicken, turkey, avocado. My D loves to use his hands, but he's not good at breaking up a big hunk of food, so I put little bits on his tray for him (not exactly BLW-style, but I've seen enough spitting up to know what works for us). I wouldn't sweat the interest thing... they go in and out of growth spurts.
If you're looking for more reasons to give baby finger foods... it helps with developing their fine motor skills (e.g., pinching).
He's got a great pincer grasp...he's just often more interested in dropping/throwing/squishing/banging the food than actually putting it in his mouth. But if I gave him something inedible...into the mouth it would go! I'm sure he'll get it. I try not to let it bother me.
