Were any of you GD moms?

My SIL is coming over for dinner tonight and she just got diagnosed with Gestational Dietabetes. If you were a GD mom did you have a favorite recipe that you would be willing to share? I could call and ask but she would just say to cook whatever and not to worry about it. Thanks!

  • I wasn't, but I think low carb is key.  So, I think anything you would normally make that is lower in carbs should be good.

  • Low Carb and as little sugar as possible. My husband made a rice bowl with veggies and teriaky sauce on some kind of meat... I liked it.

  • I had it with both kids. Like PPs said low Carb is best. I loved steak with salad and baked potato. You can have 3-4 carbs for supper. So there you'd count salad dressing and the potato as your carbs and still have room for a slice of bread. Honestly there's more wiggle room than you think. She can still have favorite dishes just less. She's probably still learning what spikes her sugars and what doesn't. With DS a 2 Carb bowl of cereal would send mine through the roof, but with DD it did nothing. With DD I had to stay away from dairy. I wouldn't stress too much. She's right she'll find something good to eat!

  • I've got Type II diabetes.  I can usually work with most normal meals.  While I was pregnant the only two things that really messed up my counts were the night I had 3 corndogs (my choice not a meal someone served) and another meal where I ate two big bowls of broccoli cheese soup (the dairy got me) with nothing else.  If you serve a meat, some sides, etc she can most likely fix a plate that works for her.
