BFers....supply tanking after STTN?

This sucks. I have noticed a HUGE drop in my supply since LO has started to STTN and eat more during the day. I can't keep up :(  I fought so damn hard to BF and it just sucks thinking about giving up now. Have any of you successfully gotten your supply back up through extra pumping, etc?

Re: BFers....supply tanking after STTN?

  • YES!  I was just going to post this.  Our LO still wakes up for a paci pop 1-2 times a night, but DH has been taking care of those.  LO has been skipping his night feeding for almost 2 weeks, and it is definitely tanking my supply.

We had to start supplementing when I went back to work Full Time, but now it's really going down. I thought they had actually started to give up on me, but I increased my water intake and pumping time at work, and I am back to where I was.

I know if I woke up at night to pump I could keep it up, but I think that's a little insane for me (finally sleeping and then waking to pump).  I think that's the only thing that would keep it up.

This. I've actually seen shadows of this beautiful thing people call STTN on maybe 3 occasions. If it tanks your supply could you add a pump after LO is down for the night but before you go to bed?

  • Another tip...I pump right before I go to bed.  Then, if at any point in the night I wake up for a paci pop/drink of water -- I hand express a little bit to trick my body.  That has also helped a little bit.  You can also do a little hand expression in between pumps.

  • I woke to pump at 12:30am until DS was over 6 months, then I slowly moved that time up until I was pumping before bed and I haven't seen a drop.
