Any november mamas cloth diapering?

Just curious... I know I have seen the CD badge in a few of your siggys. Anyone try it and find out they didn't like it? Any advice? How about, how does SO/family/caregivers handle it? I'm looking into it and think maybe I'll go with pockets or all-in-ones... but honestly I have zero clue, I've been looking at jillian's drawers.

Re: Any november mamas cloth diapering?

  • We cloth diaper! We have a hodge podge of pockets with most of them being Fuzzi Bunz. We love our cloth! When we went on vacation last week, we used disposables and realized just how much we love our cloth! Even my DH tells people how easy they are!

My Mom has come around and likes using them now, too. My MIL has yet to change a diaper, but daycare has agreed to use them, too (we start daycare on Thursday).

We also use cloth wipes because if you're already washing the diapers, it's actually easier to wash the wipes, too, instead of sorting some things to wash and some to throw out.

  • I agree with pp. I use all in ones ordered from Chinese company on eBay. Comes to @ $4 each. Dh likes them better and I love changing the size easily without having diapers go to waste.
  • We use the Bum Genius 4.0 mostly (with a few fuzzibunz mixed in).  They're one size pockets.  Love them!  We were using disposables when DS was smaller and they leaked like crazy!   The cloth hardly ever leak.  DH doesn't have any trouble with them and daycare agreed to use them as well.  I just bought a small diaper pail and liner for daycare and I will bring her clean dipes every morning and take the dirtys at night.  We also use the cloth wipes too.  It's saving us a ton of money!

  • We use them!  I really like them, but DH isn't crazy about them.  But, I'm the SAHM and changing 99% of the diapers, so I win :)  We started out w/ prefolds and covers, since they say the one size diapers don't fit newborns.  He's almost outgrown those, so we're starting to transition to one size pockets.  Right now I have only 5 pockets, which I'm using at night, but I just ordered 5 more.  I have Fuzzi Bunz and Bumkins.  The Fuzzi Bunz are my favorite.  I like the pockets because it's easy to add extra inserts for nighttime.  Also they dry quickly.  I'm planning to add more to my stash and do exclusively pockets soon.  I've been buying mine on zulily, since you can find good deals.

  • We cloth diaper too and love it! Have found the easiest for us is Thirsties wraps with prefolds or hemp inserts. We have a few AIO too, but I like wraps since you just switch out the insert if it's only wet...instead of washing the whole thing every time. DH has found CD simple and also likes it on his wallet! My mom loves it as well, but keeps wanting to use pins...we have snaps now mom, thanks. We used sposies the first month since DD was so small, so I'm really appreciating the difference!

  • We also use BumGenius (3.0s that we used with DD).  It's a big investment up front, but so worth it in the long run.  We haven't bought disposables in over a month (we use them at night b/c we've had trouble with leaks on the cloth and I don't want to mess with it).  We go to an amazing in-home daycare and she uses them.  There is another family there that uses the same ones.

  • We are cloth diapering with gdiapers. I know some people love them and some hate them, but I love them! We use the cloth inserts at home and the flushables when we're out and about. It's nice not to have to carry a big wet bag when we're gone from the house for several hours. I also like that gdiapers are substantially more trim than other cloth diapers. My baby is fat enough as it is; I don't need more padding under his clothes! And true to cloth diaper claims, we've never had a rash and never had a blowout.

  • We cloth diaper and I absolutely recommend it! I love it! We use a combo of Bum Genius and Flip diapers. It is an investment up front (I spent under $500 for my whole stash and supplies) but it saves major money in the long run. I think it is pretty hassle-free, I just have a garbage can with a washable liner. I just dump it all in the washer and line dry the diapers. I do laundry about 2 times a week. DH was only excited about cloth diapers because he loved the financial savings. I SAH so I change 99% of the diapers anyways. He helps out when he is home and doesn't mind the cloth. No one else has had to change diapers but our families are on board with our decision and think it's great, since both of our moms cloth diapered years ago. Good luck with your research!
  • I am currently CDing 2 kids.  DD is in mostly prefolds and fitteds for now.  In an emergency (aka when she had a stomach bug a couple weeks ago) she will borrow a pocket diaper from DS.  We just bought her a few bumgenius pocket diapers and as she grows will switch to pockets and aio diapers exclusively.  DS is in pockets and AIOs.  We double stuff fuzziebuns at night.  Swaddlebees simplex are our favorite out and about diapers because they are trim.  We have a bunch of happy heinys and I absolutely hate them.  I really like Oh Katy! diapers for DS.  He's tiny for his age (in the 1st percentile) and the size adjusts perfectly to his tiny legs.  With 2 in cloth we wash diapers every other day.

  • I do and I love it. Pockets are my favorite. I have a few AIOs but they take forever to dry. DH loves them too and daycare is on board.

  • I was supposed to be a November mama so I'll comment....We cloth diaper using fitteds & wool at home and take pockets to the babysitter...we have never had any leaking issues and only a very little EBF poo escaping but no blowouts, just spots on whatever he was wearing, The pockets we use are BG 4.0s seconds with prefolds in as inserts, next time BG has seconds I'm going to buy another day or two worth.  We used prefolds until he fit in the BGs and it was no biggie..

  • I just got my trial from Jillian's Drawers a few days ago so I'm just starting out, but so far I'm loving using them!  And I really like that I got a trial (DH wouldn't have let me try CDing any other way) because I've already figured out that I like AIOs and pockets the most and PFs the least.  I'm hoping that I can convince DH to let me buy some pockets before I have to send the trial back so I don't have to wait!

The only problem that we had was leaking overnight, but I'm thinking that's just going to take some trial and error.

  • We have used just about every diaper/ combo there is. Personally, I prefer fitteds with wool [pants since it's cold here] but Daddy definately like the aio's or pockets[if theyre already stuffed lol] The bumGenius pockets and freetime aio's are both great IMO they have the outer layer come down a few inches to the inside of the diaper which is awesome because it really cuts down on the pee escaping on to clothes. Rumparooz are pretty great too because they have gussets inside.  Fuzzibunz are ok, I guess maybe I am just picky though. If you and your DH, and daycare would want to test the waters first, there are several places that offer trials/ rentals where you get a variety of diaper styles and brands to test drive and some of them start at like $20 once you send them all back and they reimburse your deposit. Some also give you the option to keep the ones you like. Here is my list from when I was still researching CDs during preg.

    granolababies.com

    momsmilkboutique.com

    jilliansdrawers

and nickisdiapers.com has 15 day trial period on all diapers, cover and traing pants. They have several package bundles as well like one-size pockets or prefolds and covers [the packages have free shipping]

Or you could buy a variety of gently used diapers to test them out without a huge investment. some sites are diaperswappers.com hyenacart.com/spotscorner  diaperjunction.com jilliansdrawers.com nickisdiapers.com rediaper.com

I do and I love it. Pockets are my favorite. I have a few AIOs but they take forever to dry.

This! Although the new Bumgenius Freestyle looks like it would dry a lot quicker than the AIO's I have. This is also why I'm a big fan of Flips - the quick drying of pockets without the hassle of stuffing/unstuffing. And it's super convenient and less bulky to just carry a few inserts and an extra cover when I go out.

  • Yep, and we love it! Very simple, money saving, better for LO's bum, etc.!! There are a lot of people on my side of the family that use cloth diapers, so no questions there. DH's side thought cloth diapers were still how they were a LONG time ago and were totally confused why I'd do that, until I showed them one. DH's immediate family are good with it, some extended family thinks it's gross...doesn't really matter to me.

We use BumGenius 4.0's and they are great! Whenever a new person is watching her I just give them a little demonstration and they are fine, most people think they are neat and have no issues whatsoever.

I do advise people watching her (I feel like this sounds like a lot of different people watch her, but there aren't) to change her diaper every so many hours because it's harder to tell when she's wet in cloth than with disposables (they don't get so much bigger, like disposables), and whenever they know she's pooped. That helps to cut down on the clothes changes because she hasn't been changed enough.

Lots to learn on the cloth diaper board, and the FAQ's page they have over there. I registered for ours on Amazon, and most were fulfilled by cottonbabies.com

We used disposables for about the first month since LO wasn't quite big enough yet. I felt like I was constantly buying diapers! We have 30 BG 4.0's. We use planetwiseinc.com wet bags.

  • Thanks for all the responses! Although I must say my mind is so blown haha I am so nervous to try it and to shell out the cash for it too! I like the idea of using cloth wipes as well, I never thought about the wipes... with disposables I just wrap the wipe up into the diaper but I guess with CDs you can't exactly do that! I'm going to look into a few trials I think, the one thing I am worried about is finding ones that are as slender as disposables, but will still hold in her pee... she wets a lot!
