Caught in daycare SNAFU

Ugh, so the other day, my BRILLIANT daycare (big center, not a little place) gave my milk to the wrong baby. I was a little irritated to have an entire bottle thrown out-- I work hard for that stuff!-- but thankful that the situation wasn't reversed. Well, now there is some backlash form the other parents and they want my doctor to call thier pedi to talk. Ummm no. I don't feel comfortable with that. I'm totally healthy and will answer any specific questions, but I'm not to blame here. I understand they want to make sure nothing adversely affects their baby, but I feel so stuck in the middle :-( I was already having a "career crisis" and this just makes me want to quit and stay home! I don't know if I'm looking for advice or just needed to vent. But what is a good compromise to answer their questions without giving them free reign of my medical history?!

ugh, that sucks. i would just get your doc to write a letter on letterhead that says something like

kris has no medical issues that would cause concern in this situation.

sucks for you, but i imagine that mom is freaking out too.

Well you said yourself that you were grateful the situation was not reversed, so don't you think you'd appreciate a nice note from her doctor if it had been your child that was given the wrong milk? She doesn't have to have free reign over your medical history . . . just a note reassuring her that you are indeed healthy, no infections/diseases, etc.

Having your doctor talk to her pedi does not mean these parents are getting a print out of your medical history. You admitted you wouldn't have wanted your baby to be given another mom's breastmilk, so you have to understand she feels the same way. I think she's totally within her right to want to know that you don't have any medical concerns that would be passed through your milk.

Ugh, this sucks. Because I actually do take meds that are considered safe for BF but it's not proven they are, even though all my doctors agree BF-ing is worth any small risk, I wouldn't guarantee my milk safe for another baby and I would hate to be in that situation.

i would want as much disclosure as possible from another mom if that happened to me. any mom would.

First I am a bit suprised that you were identified in the situation...did the center share who's milk it was or was it just process of elimination? Also, has state licensing been called? They should be made aware of what happened, so that the center's process can be reviewed. This has happened to some centers in my area and licensing is always made aware. As pp stated a note from your doctor would probably be nice for peace of mind.

Licensing is aware.

I'm not saying I don't want to disclose any concerns... There are no concerns. I'm just saying that I don't want thrid parties discussing me when I'm not there.

I don't know that the other parents are aware of my identity, but with only 5 "suspects" I'm sure they can figure it out.

Honestly if it was me, I wouldn't feel obligated to do anything. ?I don't think you owe them anything. ?You could simply say you are healthy for BFing and leave it at that. ?I am in the minority though ;o)
