The only thing on DH's "absolutely must do, no compromises" list is seafood. He wants to eat yummy fresh seafood as much as possible.
DD, 4yo, will be with us and has great restaurant manners but is still only 4 so kid-friendly is a must.
We will be celebrating my birthday (it's the day before we leave), Valentine's Day (it's the day we leave), and our anniversary (actually a week after we come back) all rolled into one so one nicer (but still kid-acceptable) place would be nice but otherwise I just don't want to spend a ton of $$. He has a per diem since it's a work trip, but I'd rather use it on things like the aquarium and whatnot. Although, seafood dinner after going to the aquarium might oog out both me and DD, lol. Better make that two separate days!
My dad used to work in a place down the street from the original Scarlet Tree and we had breakfast there often growing up(anybody know if they still have the early bird special?), so we'll probably head there for breakfast one day in honor of my dad (he died 7 years ago) but other than that are there any good places we shouldn't miss? We're pretty simple when it comes to breakfast and I know if I don't have some suggestions DH will want to go to Denny's or IHOP or some place like that. Which is fine at home, but not on vacation dammit! I'm gluten-free so GF places would be awesome, but I already know I'm gonna be cheating left and right while we're there (and paying for it the next month....) plus breakfast is easy to do GF just about anywhere.
Any other places we shouldn't miss? I'm *assuming* we'll have a car, since DH's conference is at Meydenbauer Center which is a good distance from our hotel. He's not the only one from his company though, so I guess they might have a shuttle.
Thanks, ladies!
Re: Me again, now asking about restaurants (esp seafood)
There are no IHOPs or Dennys in the downtown area so he might be sol there.
But some of my favorite breakfast/brunch/lunch places down town include Seabar Rotisserie, Cafe Campagne, Pike Place Chowder. Lola's, which is up 5th and closer to Belltown is pretty good for brunch also.
Seafood restaurants and stuff: My brother really loves Elliots, and I used to be a fan but not so much anymore. I've heard good things about the Waterfront Grill and Matt's at the Market and Steelhead Diner. Not a fan of Ivar's at all or Crab Pot.
The Meydenbauer Center is in downtown Bellevue, isn't it?
Thank you for the recs, much appreciated!
Thank goodness!
Yep. Normally they get a hotel right by wherever the conference is, but not this time for whatever reason. But hey! I'm not complaining even if it means I have to get up to drive DH there every morning.
We usually do "The Crab Pot" with the kids on pier 57. There is also a carousel there too. (I think there is a Crab Pot in Bellevue too, but I have never been there.)
Ray's on Shilshole Bay is good for nice-ish seafood with kids, too.
And yes, the Scarlet Tree still has the early bird special.
They moved around the corner (65th & 8th) after the fire, but the food is pretty much exactly the same.
