i saw my endocrinologist today, and my blood work confirmed what i suspected. my graves disease is back with a vengeance! i had 5 years of euthyroid (one scare in 2009 when i was *this* close to getting it zapped), but now i have to get back on methimazole. i brought all my research to make sure i wouldn't be taking too high a level to affect DS through breastmilk (he'll still need to be monitored), and the endo is starting me at 10 mg. studies have shown that 20-30 mg of MMI are still ok and have not affected nursing infants.
with my thyroid flaring up, i lost 10 pounds in the last month. this is 10 pounds less than my pre-pg weight, which i haven't weighed since the last time my thyroid went crazy and before that, COLLEGE. (the dr. did say that i should give myself some credit since breastfeeding helped to burn some of those pounds.)
if my body responds to the meds as quickly as it did last time, i'll be saying goodbye to these skinny times and preparing myself for a year of weight fluctuations and all the symptoms of hypothyroidism.
so the question is, if i just constantly pump extra milk so my body is making gallons and gallons a day, can i avoid the weight gain that comes with slowing down my thyroid? :-P
Re: The skinny times are over
thanks, charger. i picked up my prescription, so i hope the meds start to give me some relief from all the annoying symptoms.
how's the 4MW treating you these days? getting any more sleep yet?
