I'm just curious to see what your thoughts are regarding male daycare workers. I know this is pretty rare, but it came up while we were on the daycare hunt this week, and I wondered how you ladies would feel about this. It does not impact our decision in the daycare we're going to choose, and I understand that we all need to go with what makes us comfortable, but I'm still interested to hear your opinions. Any thoughts?

Re: Would a male daycare worker make you uncomfortable?
this.
This (even though I have a boy I feel the same about the in-home daycare).
This exactly.
my read shelf:
My DCP's sexual orientation would not matter to me, male or female. The 3 gay males I know have zero interest in children therefore do not have that nurturing instinct towards a child so I would not have them watch my children.
my read shelf:
It wouldn't bother me - I think its good for kiddos to get nurturing and loving care from men and women.
This is the reason though that my husband won't take our DD to the playground alone - he feels like people look like him like he could be a perv even though he is there with his daughter :-(
I understand that these topics were only brought up for discussion, so my comments are not directed at anyone in particular... but,
1. A male daycare worked wouldn't bother me in the slightest. There is one at our center.
2. The topic of being gay should have absolutely no bearing in this discussion. Gay =/= pedophile. Any insinuation that it does is extremely offensive.
I am not going to spend my life shielding DS from men or gay people. Now, if someone gives me the heebie geebies or showed too much interest in my child, male or female, I would have a problem with that.
Same here.
What is the difference between a DCP who is male and teacher who is a male? Will you still feel the same way when your LOs reach school age?
I have no problem with a DCP being male. One of my best friends is a male DCP and he is loved by most of the children and parents. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is male but he is fantastic with children. I would rather leave my LO with him than with some of the female DCP.
This being said, it has everything to do with who he is as a person and nothing to do with his gender. There are some DCP who are female that should not work with children and I don't think they should get a free pass because they are female.
I will leave my LO with male DCP and male teachers. If the person gives me a feeling a bad feeling in my stomach - then I will deal with it regardless of whether or not they are male or female.
This exactly. I don't know why this would even be a question.
