daycares anyone?

hello CT bumpies! 

my hubby and i live in new haven, and are due in april with our first! as we started to look into daycares, OVERWHELMING is the most appropriate word. any recommendations, thoughts, comments?

    Hang in there!   It is VERY overwhelming - between the cost, the process and wondering how it will all work out.   Good luck.   You're not alone

    It IS overwhelming, I was going to switch my child's daycare because we pay soo much money for hers but ugh, to start that process over again LOL.

    It really depends where you are working. It's a good idea to pick somewhere either close to your work or in between work and home.  For example, we live in West Haven, my daughter who is 20 months, goes to the Goddard School in Orange and I work in Derby. 

     A good place to ask is your Pedi office, they usually deal with local daycares. My daughter's Pedi has 2 bulletin boards in the waiting room that have flyers on them, including advertising for local daycares in New Haven.

    thats a good idea! i actually work in waterbury and live in new haven, but i dont like any of the options in waterbury, so i'm either looking for new haven or meriden options since my hubby works in meriden:)

    One other tip.... The UnitedWay has a website that can help in your search.   The site is https://search.211childcare.org/ 

    There is also a parent resource link on the same site, which suggests questions to ask when looking at places, cost help, etc

    I live in New Haven too.  My husband and I were looking in Orange becasue there doesnt seem to be anything good in New Haven.

    yes, 211 is definitely helpful because i have used them before for other work purposes, but i didnt realize they give you helpful tips like what to look for, thanks! 

    @sage4200: there are many good options in new haven, but the majority of the good ones are beyond what i can afford, so for the common new haven gal, new haven daycares really put you in between a rock and a hard place when it comes to daycare options. good luck with your search also, if you find anything good in orange, please share!!

    You are smart to look now....so many of them have waiting lists...some up to a year or more!  WTH, do women who just had sex put their name on a waiting list or something?

    My son goes to a daycare in Cromwell  - we love it but currently live in Branford. I work in Newington so its fine since I pass by the area but my hubby works in Old Saybrook. We were originally going to find somewhere local in Branford but the places we loved have a waiting list. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    which ones have you looked at so far? about 5 years ago i used to nanny, and the 5 year old i took care of went to precious cargo. they were really nice, and other parents also had good things say about it:)
