Nursery Decorating ?

So, DH just found out that my "surprise" shower is later than we thought.  I would like to at least have the furniture set up by 34/35 weeks.  We had a glider on our registry that IMO was just ok, but DH wanted a white finish since we have off-white furniture.  I'm not stuck on this.

Do you ladies think that a darker finish with white cushions would look ok in the nursery, or do we need to stick with a white finish?  I found this one and like the reviews / colors.  I've also put a pic of our room so far and our dresser from JCP. TinyPic was being a pain, so pics aren't the best quality.

Re: Nursery Decorating ?

  • I think that's a beautiful, classy glider.  For my own style, I'm pretty "matchy matchy" so I would be looking for an off-white glider...but that's just me and, in the end, it's about comfort in a nursery.  If you go with a non-white glider, I think you picked a gorgeous one!!!!  The off-white cushions (from what I can tell in the picture) would match your furniture nicely.

  • Since your furniture is off white I wouldn't do a white wood glider. It will stand out like crazy. I would do a darker wood like you did, and even maybe not do a white cushion. Because again, next to the off white will look different.

  • I think the dark wood and off-white cushion would make a nice change from the off-white wood.  I've got the same dilemma.  The furniture I painted myself is a nice cream color, and the stuff I ordered is white, so I'm not even sure how well they'll match, but so few of the gliders come in white at all that I was wondering what to do about that.
  • You girls and your matchy match nursery are cute. I would take whatever piece of furniture I could beg, borrow or steal my way into. I'm not sure what the date of your surprise shower has to do with this question. I agree with the PP that said to go for comfort. I bought a glider that matches absolutely nothing because it was incredibly comfortable and on sale on Black Friday. I'd say, pick the most comfortable glider within your budget and go with that.

Sorry - I was typing in a hurry because dh was rushing me out the door. He want to keep the white glider on our registry and let someone else buy it or he wants me to find one that I can put on our registry. This one can't go on our registry but is within reason. I don't want someone to buy one for us that I think is just ok or wait an see if we even get it and then have to scramble to find one that matches that will be here in time for baby

I would rather get one I'm happy with for myself.

That makes a lot more sense. I'm a FTM, but from what I've heard and read, a glider can be a very personal choice, and the level of comfort varies greatly from brand to brand. If the one that fits your comfort AND style isn't available where you registered, I'd say pick it up yourself and mark the one on your registry as purchased. If you can afford to get it, then don't sacrifice the comfort for something you'll regret later. (I've sat in a LOT of very uncomfortable gliders that I couldn't fathom nursing/soothing for several hours a day in.)

  • I think it will work fine. I got my sister's glider which looks like the one you pictured, and I also have off white furniture. It goes fine, though it's shoved in the corner so you don't see too much wood.

I have a pic on my blog

  • I'm an interior designer and I say go with the dark wood glider.  Smile

Personally, I prefer not to have a whole set of furniture. I like to mix in different pieces and add a few special items (homemade or vintage) to make the space look unique.  Btw, your nursery looks great so far.  Love the color!
