I just couldn't stand the silence anymore, and I called for an update today. We were approved on January 31st!
So now, all we need is provisional approval from the US Embassy in Peru. USCIS said it takes up to seven days for the embassy to recieve our file. Once they receive it, we can submit our application electronically. I know they prioritize adoption cases and usually make their determination pretty quickly.
So, we are booked to travel on February 24th! I was hoping we could reconsider and move our flights up a week, since we'll likely be cleared to start the in-country process sooner, but it just looks very cumbersome and pricey to do that. The flight is double what we paid, our apartment in Peru isn't vacant for that week, and we are supposed to meet with M's child study team earlier in the week of February 20th. So, as much as I'd love to move things up, it's just not practical. This extra week will give us the oportunity to tie up all our loose ends and preparations and the luxury to not worry if we'll be fully approved in time.
I'm (almost definately) going to meet my baby on February 27th! It's finally real!!!!!
