Serious Anxiety over Lact Consult

I have a LC coming over to the house in 20 minutes and for some reason I am freaking out. We are having issues with DS's latch but I think other than that he has been feeding really well and gaining weight. I guess my anxiety comes from having a professional come over to critique what we are doing and as an FTM there is about 99% of the time when I don't know what the h#$$ I am doing.....Ok, deep breath! I am sure she will be very helpful and supportive. Vent over

I know how you feel. I'm having latch problems and it's awkward having people watch and critic you.

I hope it went well! I had an appt with a LC when nursing DS1 and almost canceled it out of anxiety. But I'm still convinced that appt is the only reason I was able to continue BF!

I went to a "Latch Clinic" yesterday offered at our local natural parenting store and it was so worth it! Like you, latching is really our only problem - it's just not deep enough, and as a result, my nipples are pretty sore. The LC was fabulous, supportive and helpful. We still don't have our latch perfected, but we're getting there!

Update Post Consult: You ladies were right, it was wonderful! She was very supportive and showed me some great strategies for getting a deeper latch. Some of the things she showed me were so much easier than all the different holds that I have been trying. Best part is that DS is now over his birth weight and got a great amount of milk from the feeding. DS did so well too, even impressing us with a massive blowout BM mid-feed
