C-sections

F/U to my post a couple of months ago about LLL

I posted a while ago about one of the leaders at LLL telling one of the Moms that she'd better have a VBAC or the anesthesia used during her c/s would cause major issues with BFing.

Well, that mom was at the meeting today. She had a RCS, and her little boy is nursing like a champ. She thanked me for speaking up for her. I am disappointed that the leader who made the comment wasn't there today to hear about her experience which was very good!

Now, we just need to tell Moms that need a c/s how to make BFing easier, not that a c/s will automatically mean failure. Because it doesn't!

  • I want to punch that LLL leader.  Good to hear things are going well for that mom, and I'm glad you spoke up for her. :)

  • WOW!  Super said that she said that.  While having a c-section can effect a mamas initial BFing it does, by no means she will not be able to BF her LO.  Some mamas BF just wonderfully!  Shame on her.

     Amen!

My initial issues with bfing had nothing to do with my csection. DS had a wicked overbite and could not latch for anything.  Now, my milk didn't come in until 5 days later, but I doubt that had anything to do with how I gave birth.

  • Good for you!  I had a c section and went on to breastfeed for 9 months!  My section caused no problems whatsoever with nursing!

  • Wow, that is SO misinformed!  And, shouldn't LLL be supportive vs. telling a woman their doomed before they even start?  Sheesh!

FWIW, my milk didn't come in until day 5 with DS after a c/s ... he still nursed fine.  It came in on day 2 with DD after a RCS and she nursed fine for 13 mos.

  • Good for you and for her!  And that LLL leader should see my DD who nursed for 21 months and DS who is doing great so far - both c/s babies.  I've had fewer issues BFing than a lot of moms I know who had vaginal births.
