Before I start this post I want to mention that I do know anything can change at this point, but I am pretty disappointed when I consider having a C-Section. Has anyone dealt with this who has a midwife? I will do anything to get baby to turn (and yes I know I could get her to flip and then have her flip right before I go into labor). At this stage will my midwife refer me to an OB? I have heard that it may be policy to need to be hooked up to a monitor if they try to turn the baby externally (I have even heard about some providers preferring an epidural for relaxation before turning). I'm a little stressed not only due to my desire to have an unmedicated labor (and not really feeling comfortable taking the time off work to heal from a C-section - in addition to working in the OR at the same hospital I would have to have it), but also knowing my midwives don't have an ultrasound to just scan baby in office and they didn't catch it during external exams previously (baby has been breach for weeks- I kept feeling her head which I thought was her behind). Just venting and wondering how other natural labor mothers have dealt with this.

Re: Baby frank breach 35 weeks - planned for un-medicated labor
I after researching how the medications and interventions affect baby and mom I totally understand why you want a unmedicated birth.
Like pp said, trying seeing a acupuncturist. I regularly see a traditional chinese acupuncturist and he advised me if baby is not head down that he can help me get him/her into that position. Make sure it's a real acupuncturist though not a massage or physical therapist that has taken a 6 week course.
Good Luck!
I called my midwife (FWIW we are planning a homebirth) to discuss breech babies and her policies. I had never discussed this with her as it never applied with J.
She said that babies usually settle into their preferred position around 33-35 weeks, but that they can turn anytime (which I already knew). Then she said that if baby is breech around 37 or 38 weeks, they will try to turn baby.
If baby doesn't turn or the version is successful but baby flips back to breech, they treat it as a normal variation of baby's position and allow mom to deliver breech.
Delivering breech is one of my worst fears as my mom had an awful vaginal breech delivery with my sister. I know women can successfully birth breech babies vaginally, but that doesn't mean I want to.
I will definitely be trying techniques from spinning babies and hoping baby flips to vertex. If not, DH and I have a big decision to make.
I would for sure talk to your care provider about their policies for breech babies.
I am facing the exact same situation and wish I had some advice to give you. I have tried some of the techniques on spinningbabies.com, the Webster technique with a chiropractor, moxa sticks, ice on upper belly, music and light on lower belly and my LO refuses to flip. I, too, had planned on an un-medicated birth. I took Bradley classes, hired a doula, and wrote up a very detailed birth plan.
I have an ultrasound scheduled for Tuesday to confirm her position. If she doesn't flip by 37 weeks, my OB wants to schedule a c-section for 39 weeks. I want to go until at least 40 weeks, but she does not feel comfortable with that.
I understand that anything can happen during labor and things don't always go according to plan, but I never thought I'd have to schedule a c-section without even being given a chance to labor naturally. I know that baby still has time to flip, but it looks more unlikely as each week goes by. I am so brokenhearted over this and can only hope that she flips before the c-section. If not, I really hope I can find a way to accept this.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you and send some of my flipping vibes your way. Good luck!
After having 2 easy unmedicated births with a midwife my 3rd baby was breech. I was 37 weeks when we found out and was devestated! I tried chiropactor webster technique, moxi sticks , and all the techniques on spinningbabies. I then was referred to an OB to try a external version. It has to be done at a hosptial with the use of ultrasound and is more painful than labor! My belly was sore for days! Nothing worked they think because he was too big. I had a c-section at almost 40 weeks, my midwife came for support. It sucked! It is very creepy and the recovery is so much more painful than a natural vaginal delivery.
I would keep trying everything to get your baby to flip. Usually you can work with both the midwife and the ob. Hopefully since you found out so soon you can get that little one to flip!
I am now 34 weeks with my fourth baby and found out she is breech. I was hoping for a vbac and will try everything possible to get this one to turn. Unfortunately since a had a c=sectin last time I am considered high risk and had to see a ob istead of a midwife and she is pushing for me to have a repeat c=section. I am looking for a different doctor.
Best of luck to you, hope this helps!
This is what I did. I confirmed breech at 33 weeks via u/s (although I had know she was for weeks before that) and from that first day started seeing a chiro, doing the inversion exercises on spinningbabies.com, and getting acupuncture and moxibustion. At my 36 week apt. my MWs played with my belly for a bit and realized that they could get her from breech to transverse just by simple manipulation (didn't hurt at all), so they felt like since she had so much room and was so pliable, that we should just go for the version ASAP.
I ended up getting an external version done that week by an OB who is loved for being effective and gentle in the homebirth MW circles and he was able to turn my baby. She has stayed heads down since then, but if she had not he said I could come back once a week until I was in labor. My MW actually went with me to the apt. (which was at a hospital), so that was very comforting.
I know that external versions can get a bad wrap on here, but I think it really depends on the person doing it. The one I had was not pleasant, however it was not the horror show that people talked about. The OB I saw spent a lot of time with the u/s making sure there was no visual reason she had not flipped before going forward with the version and obviously knew exactly what he was doing.
Also, probably thanks to all the other stuff, she was already transverse again when we arrive at the version, so the whole thing took less than a minute.
I should also say that I was planning what I would do if she did not turn and I had decided that I would just pick a local hospital that is know for being more natural friendly (my MW used to be a doula and went there a lot with clients) and go for the c-section once I was in early labor. I did consider a breech birth at home (my MWs mentor has experience and was willing), but decided that was not for me. I also considered briefly scheduling a c-section, but did not feel comfortable picking my babies birth date....especially since my first needed quite a bit more time to bake than the standard 39/40 weeks that they schedule sections.
PM me if you have any other questions and GOOD LUCK!
