Natural Birth

Natural hospital birth?

Hi ladies. I'm interested in a natural birth but I'm too skittish to do a birthing center. Is a natural hospital birth possible? Was your OB on board? What options did you have at your hospital birth? Or is it impossible? Thanks!

Re: Natural hospital birth?

  • It is totally possible (at least I hope, since that is my plan).  I would suggest talking with different OBs because some are more favorable to natural deliveries than others.  My hospital allows doulas and midwives to be present as well during labor and delivery.  Granted, they are considered a support person by the hospital.

Really? I scrolled down 6 pages before I even found the word hospital. Three weeks ago. And it was not in any way in reference to my question but thanks for all your help.

Um, I was TRYING to help you- no need to be bitchy.  It is FRIDAY evening- not a busy time on this board.  I suggested you scroll back so you would have other options.  Also, when something is asked A LOT (which this question IS), people get tired of answering it.

I didn't offer any other information because I have only had a homebirth and am planning another.

And I get tired of people coming over to WC and asking what to do with chicken breast. But I don't feel the need to inform them to not ask the question. And I don't think it's bitchy to respond that I did, in fact, scroll down. Six pages.

  • ...and just because the post does not specifically say "natural hospital birth" does not mean that it is not about the topic.  There are AT LEAST 5 posts that I see on the last two pages about this topic.

Oh FFS.  You are a lovely peach.   I never said you were not allowed to ask. Again, I was trying to HELP.  Trust me- I will not bother in the future.

I don't even know what WC means, but if I had a reason to go there, I certainly would LURK before giving one of the first posters I encountered attitude.  Every board has their own dynamic and if you spent ANY time on here you would have know that I post on here daily and that I was just offering information.  Instead, you made a snap judgment and now you just look like a ***.

I do wish you a good pregnancy and birth experience and hope you find the support you need here.

  • Yes it is completely possible.  Not sure why people thing it's not possible.  My family dr and now for this pregnancy my midwives our completely onboard.  Not sure what you are asking about the options for a hospital birth.

  • Is this the part where you say something about hormonal pregnant women?

Anyway, I had a natural labor in a hospital which did end in a c/s. I had a birth ball, no IV (just a hep lock) until just before the c/s, intermittent monitoring on the birth ball instead of being stuck in bed, no epi, no pitocin, no arom. Had I gotten to that point I could have pushed however I wanted, could have delayed cord clamping, skin to skin, etc. Just find out your hospital policy and go from there.

  • I had a successful med-free birth with a MW in a hospital.  I think the success rate depends on the hospital and the provider.

  • It is possible but it's all up to you and your support system there.  and pinksweetp is right here are the previous threads just on the last few pages.  I responded on them recently about my opinion on how to achieve a natural hospital birth.

good luck! I would go w/midwives not an OB if you really want a natural birth (if possible of course).

  • I noticed you are from Chicago, have you decided what hospital you are going to go with?

I delivered at Swedish under the care of the CNM group and had a wonderful experience; they are very pro-natural childbirth there.  Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about my experience at Swedish or if you want any info on childbirth classes, etc.

  • I've had two med-free births at different hospitals.  It is totally possible.
  • I had a med-free delivery in a hospital. It was easy enough. I didn't even know the doc, just asked them to leave me alone (in some sort of kind way) and gave them my birth plan. Only part that went bad was delivery, when I was requested to get in bed.

  • I'm planning a natural waterbirth in a hospital with midwives.  Definitely interview different OBs/midwives and go with the provider who is most supportive of a natural birth.  I personally think this is more important than the particular hospital you are at.

  • Read the book, The Natural Hospital Birth: The Best of Both Worlds. It helps you to write a birth plan and teaches you how to present it so that it is taken seriously by the doctors and hospital staff. AWESOME BOOK!!!!!
