Labial Adhesion

My daughter went in for her 18 month check yesterday, and it was found she has this. I feel absolutely horrible for not even noticing, and even after the dr. told me, it sorta took me a minute to even see what she was talking about.

 Well, since then I have done tons of online looking and just cannot decide what to do. The Dr. prescribed the estrogen cream, which I am not hip on using. As of right now it isn't blocking anything so we are going to try and wait it out.

However, I might want to be a little proactive and try some other things, so far I have read Neosporin, Vaseline, and coconut oil can all be used and may help.

 Any stories, tricks, or advice? Thanks so much :)

    I have never heard of this! I had to look it up. It sounds fairly common. I think I am going to check out my LO because she has had 2 UTI's... 

    I would not be hip on using the estrogen cream either... Was your Dr. concerned? I read the Dr. Green article and he seemed to take a wait and see approach.

    I didn't even notice until the Dr. said something. However, funny thing is now that I mention it to my mom, she somewhat remembers me having a similar thing.

     My pedi didn't even mention side effects or anything, just to use it for two weeks, twice a day. It wasn't until I got home and did my own research realizing this cream is a hormone cream (which I have also read is made from mane urine!!).

    As of now, my dd's is barely closed and we plan to just wait it out while putting on Vaseline just to make sure she stays irritation free.

    I would not be so happy about the hormone cream either. I honestly would keep an eye on it and wait it out. I am a big believer in things happen and our bodies are amzaing things and most of the time can heal/correct themselves.

     Honestly? this is something that, if left, can be pretty painful. effects are urinary tract infections, bladder infections, and waiting it out could actually increase her chance of having surgery. while estrogen cream is no joke, waiting it out is not a viable option.

    I would say the majority of people would not agree. I have been all on it the past two days and many people say if it doesn't block urine there's no harm to it. In our case it is barely closed at all. At this point I am just trying to see what other methods mothers have used. One that comes very highly recommended is A&D cream to makes sure there is no irritation.

    And if anyone was wondering, we check the generic of that cream was a 150 dollars.

    LOL. I highly doubt the "majority" of people are disregarding a dr's suggestion in this matter and waiting out an adhesion. Do what you need to do but I would not be waiting out a labial adhesion.

    DD's was minor enough the doc said just to stretch it at every diaper change and he'd check again next time we were in. That was when she was really little and we were going a lot more often. He did say if it didn't resolve the treatment was estrogen cream, which I would have had no problem using at that point, but it ended up not being an issue.

    Please treat it. I had one and is wasn't taken care of properly. It has Drastically effected my intimate life. Drastically. Like, very painful. I'm sure you don't want that for your daughter.

    My DD had one, too. At 13 months I took her to a urologist and he put some numbing cream on it and just tore it. She cried for a minute or two and that was it. We put Aquafor on it for several months and it's healed wonderfully.

    If the estrogen cream was a long term thing, I would share your concern, but it's 2 weeks & could treat a potentially painful issue. 

    I say treat it. 2 weeks isn't very long.

    We're currently dealing with this issue as well.  It's something I always noticed on DD, but it wasn't until I was changing another baby that I noticed just how different my DD was.

    Right now she's on an estrogen cream for a month.  While I'm not crazy about the idea of the cream, it is something I want to correct while DD was still young.  She's been on the cream for not even a week and I can already see a difference.

    We were also referred to a specialist at Hopkins to double check that there are no issues on the inside but we're hopeful it will clear up in a few months.

    DS had adhesions at his cirimcision site and we gently worked them out at bathtime followed by tons of baby aquaphor he has healed well. After this incident I spoke with an OB at work and he told me adhesions are common in boys and girls and that if minor enough both often self resolve. I appreciate your concern regarding the hormones and understand if you choose to wait and watch for sometime, perhaps start using aquaphor or similar in the meantime and I would urge you not to wait too long. As PP said there can be long term painful consequences. This is the type of thing I would be keen on resolving early.
