Safest way to bus with baby?

Hey again ladies,

So, I live in a town with an excellent public transportation system, and we are a one car family.  There will inevitably be days when Hubs will have the car and I'll need to buzz out to run and errand or grab some groceries.

What's the best way to carry my baby on the bus?  I almost always do get a seat, but I can't guarantee that there would be two together.  Do I lug the carrier anyway?  Should I wear her?

Anyone have some good methods?

Re: Safest way to bus with baby?

  • I always wore my son on the bus but I didn't have a car seat carrier thing. I also took my stroller on (non-peak times). Now he either sits on my lap or in his own seat. I also wore him if we took a taxi. I put the waist belt under his leg and the shoulder belt around (not over) him. He was securely strapped to me and I was securly strapped in.

  • I try not to use public transit during rush hour, so I usually bring my lightweight stroller on board. Our city buses have a handicapped seat section that you can lift up and put in a wheelchair or stroller.

If it was during a busy time, I always wore her. Sometimes I still wear her on my back in the Ergo (she's three).

  • Thanks very much!  Wearing was my original gut feeling.  I didn't even want to picture lugging the carseat and groceries around.  :)

  • My DH rides the bus with our baby. He usually wears her, because the stroller is a pain.
