I cannot for the life of me figure out the Moby

I've tried a few different ways of wrapping, but I never feel like it's tight enough on her. I've looked at Youtube videos and follow the directions exactly, but it doesn't feel right. I'm going to a babywearing group meeting in a few weeks, but I'd like to get her in it now!

Re: I cannot for the life of me figure out the Moby

  • I only ever used it for the front carry.

I would wrap it around me and put her in it like the instructions said. Then, I would untie it and sort of pull the two ends tighter behind my back. Let me rephrase. I would untie it and hold the two ends behind my back. then pull them tighter a few times. and retie. Then see if there is any loose fabric and repeat. For a visual think of putting your arms behind your back and touching your upper ribs, then pulling down to your waist.

Sorry for the horrible explanation. I would generally be trying to get my screaming kiddo in the wrap, and then once she was in and settled, I would tighten it up.

  • While wrapping are you pulling it tight? You want it to fit you like a snug tshirt, don't leave space for her while wrapping. It will stretch to fit her snugly.

I put it across my belly then x over the shoulders and smooth those out well so it's comfy across my back/shoulders. After tucking them under the middle piece, I will pull everything super snug. And then wrap the ends around my waist tightly and tie.

I'm not sure if that makes any sense but I hope it helps. You can also try washing/drying it - mine shrinks up a bit and always feels tighter for the first few wears after washing.

Keep practicing though, and I'm sure you will get the hang of it!

  • I wanted a Mei Tai, too, maybe I'll get one. I did get her in the Moby last night and it felt more secure than it did before. Unfortunately, she pooped and started screaming so I took her out to change her :) Thanks, guys! I will keep trying and possibly grab another carrier as well.

  • Ok, I think I've got it figured out! Wooooo. She's been in it for over an hour and it feels comfortable and she's sleeping soundly.

  • I bought one for DD2, and I never really got the hang of it. She was born in July, so I didn't try much during the early hottest months. When I finally did put the effort in, I found out she didn't really like it. So I gave up. We ended up getting an Ergo when we went on vacation, and she really liked that. She was about 6 months at the time. We tried to use it recently (at 15 months), and she hated it again. She just prefers being carried to being worn.
