My OB just kinda stitched me up and I had to ask how bad it was and while I appreciate her concentrating on her job, I never really got the whole truth about the extent of the damage. I know I tore internally pretty bad and only had a bit of external tearing. But the stitches should be dissolved by now right? So it might be safe to take a peak using a hand mirror?

My OB cut me a little (with my permission) since DD was stuck for a while and her HB wasn't getting back up. She never told me how many stitches, but she did say it was a clean cut with no extra tearing and it should heal quickly and well.
"Quick healing" does not necessarily apply to the stitches, though. I was told that it could take 6+ weeks for them to dissolve. I still want to take a peek!
You can feel the stitches as they are healing, they get scratchy and feel like they are stabbing you... I think it takes a little longer than where I am now, but I could be wrong.
I had a C this time, but the doctor tore me with a vacuum before I went in for surgery. He said he wasn't going to bother stitching it, and to tell you the truth, I never felt it.
With DS1 they were stitching me up for a looong time.... my doctor not only did not tell me how many stitches I had, she would not tell me the degree of the tear. It was bad enough that when I went for my 6 week appt, I still was not healed, it was burning when I peed and she put silver something on me, which burnt like a mofo. She wrote me out of work for another 4 weeks after that.
