Did your OB tell you how many stitches?

My OB just kinda stitched me up and I had to ask how bad it was and while I appreciate her concentrating on her job, I never really got the whole truth about the extent of the damage. I know I tore internally pretty bad and only had a bit of external tearing. But the stitches should be dissolved by now right? So it might be safe to take a peak using a hand mirror?

  • I had an episiotomy and 4 small tears.  I don't know how many stitches, but I do know he used 4 suture kits on me.  I'm 4w pp and actually had two pieces from my stitches come off/out today when I went to the bathroom.

  • My ob told me as he was stitching me up that I had a very small tear he called a "skidmark" and that he was giving me one stitch. Not gonna lie, I've looked twice using a hand mirror. Not very pretty and I know I got away from the whole experience without much damage so beware!

  • My OB cut me a little (with my permission) since DD was stuck for a while and her HB wasn't getting back up. She never told me how many stitches, but she did say it was a clean cut with no extra tearing and it should heal quickly and well.

"Quick healing" does not necessarily apply to the stitches, though. I was told that it could take 6+ weeks for them to dissolve. I still want to take a peek!

  • You can feel the stitches as they are healing, they get scratchy and feel like they are stabbing you... I think it takes a little longer than where I am now, but I could be wrong.

I had a C this time, but the doctor tore me with a vacuum before I went in for surgery.  He said he wasn't going to bother stitching it, and to tell you the truth, I never felt it.

With DS1 they were stitching me up for a looong time.... my doctor not only did not tell me how many stitches I had, she would not tell me the degree of the tear.  It was bad enough that when I went for my 6 week appt, I still was not healed, it was burning when I peed and she put silver something on me, which burnt like a mofo.  She wrote me out of work for another 4 weeks after that.

  • I don't know how many stitches. I do know I had a second degree tear.  It didn't take long for the doctor to stitch me back up.

  • I have no idea how many stitches I have... mine have not dissolved completely yet either. I tore this time... but I was cut the last time with DS.  I do remember at my 6 week appointment I still have a couple of stitches left - no biggie IMO.

  • Too many to count, ugh. First, second, and third degree tears. It took an hour for her to stitch me up.
