Anybody an expert on how to hide veggies in food? I've been trying to get DS to eat veggies every way I can think of. Steamed, boiled, baked but he refuses to eat them. We resort to feeding it to him as baby food which he will eat. I'm at my whit's end trying to figure out how to get him to eat veggies.
I've made mac n cheese with brocoli. Pancakes with sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes with cinnamon. Tonight I'm making cheddar brocoli soup with rice in it. Hopefully he'll eat some of it. We'll see.
Anybody got any tips or recipes that have worked for your picky eater?
Re: Sneaking in veggies?
I gave up on Abby. The only thing she will eat is celery which is devoid of nutrition. She only eats it because the Wonder Pets do. Perhaps they should make a show that makes all the veggies cool! She loves to eat just about everything else and eats a fair amount of fruit. She's growing OK so I just let it be. Anytime I try to sneak stuff in she refused it so I don't try anymore.
We tried letting her dip everything in Ranch, which worked well in my nanny days but she didn't care for that either. *sigh*
We're kinda in the same boat. DD will only eat a couple veggies so we just rotate those as much as we can. I keep offering her other veggies and she doesn't eat them - I refuse to push the issue so I'll just continue to rotate sweet potatoes, corn, peas, and the occasional carrot until she branches out more. Personally, I'm not a fan of "hiding" veggies - I want her to willingly eat something and I don't like feeling like I'm "tricking" her into eating something she doesn't like.
DD does eat the Happy Baby veggie pouches (HEB usually has the best price unless you order online). I try to always keep those on hand and it is usually our "snack on the go" when we're out and about. It's not the ideal way for her to get green veggies (since I only buy the spinach and green bean ones) but I'm really not going to argue when she willingly consumes it.
Good point. I didn't think about that. So she's still eating baby food then too? I don't think our pedi is too excited about the idea that we're still giving ds baby food but that really is the only way we can get him to eat any veggies. He eats, fruit, dairy, meat and grains all day long. Maybe I just need to find other things to give him in those categories because everyting we give him always seems the same and he's starting to get tired of some of his go to fruits. or maybe he's just turning into a picky eater. When does that usually start happening anyway?
It's not "baby food" per se, but yeah, she's essentially eating pureed vegetables. We give her these that are more "tailored" to toddlers than traditional baby food.

DD was aways on the picky end but I noticed it getting worse (to where we are now) after her 2nd birthday. I know I was a super picky eater as a kid (and I'm not anymore, hah) so I know that she'll eventually grow out of it. I just keep offering her veggies on a regular basis and hope that one day she'll actually eat one.
