Hooray! ... and teething help

First the hooray: DS had his weight check today (after having lost weight while sick) and he is officially back on the charts! Woohoo! He gained 8 ounces in 7 days and is finally up over 16 lbs.

Now for help: DS is getting in four top teeth all at the same time. Well, not really at the same time--kind of staggered. So it's not like there's a hell week and then we're good, it's like he's been breaking one tooth a week for the last three weeks. Awful. We've been giving him ibuprofen at night, but after two weeks straight of that, doc agrees that we need to give his body (kidney) a break. She suggested alternating with Tylenol. I'd love a non-medicinal approach. We tried just not giving him anything two nights ago and it didn't go well.

What are your best non-medicinal teething remedies?

ETA: to clarify--looking for overnight teething pain help. During the day he's a-ok chewing on anything he can get his hands on.

Dear Bump: You suck.

Re: Hooray! ... and teething help

  • have you done teething tablets?  I think they helped us when we were going through the worst of it.

a wet washcloth in the freezer for 10 minutes also helped.

During the day he's okay nomming on whatever he can get in his mouth, it's mostly overnight relief I'm looking for. I'll go back and clarify. :-)

I thought about the Hyland's tablets, but didn't they get recalled for something?

  • I don't have any overnight suggestions--we either just toughed it out or gave ibuprofen occasionally. Sucks. I'm sorry.

But SUPER YAY for weight gain!!!!

I know, right? We gave DD ibuprofen for teething mayyybe three times her whole life. But she also only broke 'em two at a time. This four-at-once thing is for the birds.

they reformulated them and they're back on the market!  I got a bottle of like 100 tablets or something from CVS for $8 or $10, I think.

  • Yes, they did recall the Hyland's teething tablets awhile back, but they retooled and they're back on the market. Those are definitely a good place to start!

  • Congrats on the weight gain! We joke that DD is the only one in the family that has a problem putting it on :)

They were recalled a couple of years ago b/c there was a problem with consistent dosage among tablets. They've since started manufacturing them again. The tablets and gel both work great with my DD. Good luck - teething is no fun for baby or mommy!

  • Yay for the weight gain but boo for the teething hell!  Sorry I don't have any good advice though  :-(

RE: teething tablets - you could also try the "Little Teethers" brand.

  • Yay for weight gain!  Unfortunately, I don't have non-ibuprofen advice for teething pain.  Hopefully his teeth will just decide to hurry on up!

  • When DD was teething and they hylands tablets weren't back yet, someone told us about another homeopathic option called Camilia drops.  They are by Boiron and you can get them at Sprouts and I believe Walgreens also carries them.  They were great!  HEB used to have them, but they were in such high demand that they never seemed to have them in stock.  I also swear by the baltic amber teething necklaces.  I know quite a few other mama's who love them too and it also helps with all the drooling.  GL

I have the Camilia stuff too, it's kind of pricey so I'd stock up at amazon if you find it works. Fjaril also told me about punkin (shutter at the name, but I digress) but teething oil. If I remember correctly, it's cheaper thru the actual site, not on amazon. Hope he's feeling better!
