Playroom Help needed

Hi ladies,

I have gotten so many useful recommendations from you all and I need some help.  I am currently trying to turn an extra room we have into my sons playroom.  It has hard wood floors, and I was wanting to put something down on the floor so that he can crawl around and not get hurt if he wobbles over.  Something really comfortable and cushy that he can crawl around on (also for whomever is on the floor playing with him) I really think the interlocking foam mats are the best thing for this, but there are so many safety questions I have about these.  Apparently these are banned in Europe because most of them contain Formamide.

Does anyone know if I can find any that are safe for my little one?  Or any other floor covering recommendations would be welcomed.

  • I don't know anything about the safety of the foam floor mats, but if you're uncomfortable with those, what about a cute rug that matches your decor? Garden Ridge has some really cute ones for very cheap.

  • Foam mats are great, get them at lowes! Don't read too much online!!

  • I don't know about the safety of them but I like the foam squares, too.  I found some at Ross for much cheaper than other places.  They had a few different styles, too.

  • We bought our foam squares online--I found a web site that let you put in what size your room was and it told you how many you would need.  And then if you want colors, it has a little guide where you put in how much of what color you want and it figures it all out for you.  Very neat.  And super cheap.  I think we got about 40 or so foam squares (maybe more) for around $100?  We figured that would be cheaper than putting down carpet (we also have hardwood floors).  And to date, neither of the boys has ever bothered to chew or lick them, so I think we're in the clear.  ;)
