wraps from Etsy? (a bit wordy)

i am excited about wearing my daughter (due in about 8 weeks), and i have registered for both a Moby and an Ergo (the ergo is for hubby)

if i don't get either one of those as a gift, i plan to just buy a woven wrap to use myself, and buy the ergo once DD is a few months old (provided she enjoys being worn, i know some babies don't!)

woven wraps are expensive!  at first a was seriously considering a maya ring sling, but i'm talking myself out of it, because i think a woven wrap would be more versatile. (am i wrong?)

i have seen several nice-looking gauze wraps on Etsy for between $38 and $44, which is quite cheap.
i thought gauze would be a good material because i'm due in April, and it'll be summer before i know it.

my question to you lovely ladies is this:
has anyone actually bought a wrap from etsy? any recommended sellers? should i bite the bullet and buy a more expensive woven wrap somewhere else?

please help!

Re: wraps from Etsy? (a bit wordy)

  • I would get hot in my Moby during the summer in Wisconsin, so before going for an extended trip to Georgia, I bought one of the woven ones. I bought mine from wombfruit.com. It worked great for a smaller LO and the price was definitely right and I was much cooler. However, it won't stand up as well as a woven and I doubt it is as versatile. It isn't stretchy like a Moby, but still doesn't give you the same support you'd have from a woven.

  • this helps, thanks!

i just hesitate to spend $100+ on a nice woven wrap before i get the hang of it and before i'm sure DD will be on board with it.

  • has anyone actually bought a wrap from etsy? any recommended sellers? Yes, I have a gauze Babyette wrap from etsy. To be honest with you, after learning to LOVE wrapping with my moby I ended up buying this gauze to 'save' money because I didn't want to take the plunge and buy a woven. I regret it. I wish I would have made the plunge and skipped the gauze wrap. The gauze wrap very quickly became very hard to wear my LO for long hours. We only do the dishes with ours for 1/2 hour max.

should i bite the bullet and buy a more expensive woven wrap somewhere else? What PP said. You can find great deals on woven wraps on www.thebabywearer.com on FSOT. I buy most of my wraps used on there and you can find good deals. My one Didymos I got for $75 for a size 7!!! You just have to keep an eye out and know the market. Also, wraps hold value, so you can usually sell for what you paid for or even more sometimes.

In all, I love wrapping and it has made our life so much easier. DH and I both wrap... and we made a deal. Once we are finished wrapping we will sell the wraps and put in DS's college fund.

  • you know you can make your own moby for as little as 5 dollars (depending on price of fabric)

just get 5 yards of fabric all continuous (cotton based is great) then cut a large strip (at least 20 inches wide i like mine a little wider) and you have a great inexpensive moby that should last you up to 30 lbs or so... no sewing... and you can make up to 3 off the same amount of cloth

  • Hi there,

We have a wrap from esty.( Loveyduds) is the seller. I just LOVE it! So much that im going to buy another one (for the next baby) I just bought a plain black one so my hubby could use it to, but he doesnt, he likes the peanut shell. So i would like a pretty one for me.

It works great, once you figure out how to wear it so fast to put on. Our LO is 4months old now and she loves it has at least one nap a day in it. I walk everyday with her in the sling, im getting great legs and butt from the extra weight of her too. An added bonus!  I strongly recommend one!

enjoy every moment Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
