Paci/nipples

Probably a really stupid FTM question, that I'm pretty sure I know the answer to, but figured asking can't hurt (unless I get flamed...then it might hurt a little ;)  )...Pacifiers and nipples should be thrown away once they've outlived their usefulness, correct?  Meaning they shouldn't be saved and boiled for a second child.

  • Right.  The plastic or latex breaks down over time and can crack.

huh, good to know.  I wasn't going to save pacis, but was going to save bottle nipples...guess not now!

This! Ha! I didn't know but now that I think of it, duh! Guess I'll just save the bottles sans nipples!

  • What about silicone? I know some nipples are made out of silicone.

I think silicon can last for longer....not for sure, though.

Ha, I just read the user manual for the Avent bottles we use and it says to twist the nipples before each use and throw away if there's any tearing and to replace them every 3 months for "hygenic reasons"  Going on 9 months, well I guess 7 really, with the same nipples here...

Hmm, note to self here: Reading manuals might be a good idea. Lol.

  • Yeah, reading is what made me think about it.  I bought some new paci's for DD and read the back and got to thinking because it said to replace them after "about 2 months".  I don't always follow package though (I don't think I've ever washed my hair and then rinsed and repeated like the bottle said!), but this seemed like one of those things to pay attention to.

  • Wow. I feel like a bad mommy - I had no idea about any of this. DS has only used a bottle a few times, and never really took to a paci, but I was saving everything in case we need them for the next LO. Now I guess I've got to get rid of it...
