We had our first day at daycare today. DH had to do drop off since I was already long at work. In a way I am glad that I didn't have to do it and deal with all the emotions, but part of me is sad that I missed a big day.
Her teacher and the Director said that she did very well for her first day and was a bit upset when DH dropped her off, but she quickly adjusted. Anytime she was getting a bit upset she allowed her teacher to pick her up and comfort her. She started getting anxious when the other parents started coming to pick their kids up and had a meltdown when her teacher had to step out to go to the bathroom and the director came in. Needless to say she was really happy to see Mommy!!
She is so tired tonight because they only give one nap time in the 1-2yr old class and she is used to having 2 1.5-2hr naps a day (on top of sleeping 12hrs a night....I am a lucky Momma!!). But hopefully she adapts soon.
Re: First day at daycare
Yay!! Congratulations. It's hard sending them that first day or 2, but if you get a chance to drop her off or visit her during the day then take it so you can see how well she adapts. You'll see her grow and change so much in the next couple weeks!!

I'm doing my first full day tomorrow and I am a complete wreck. My guy is a lot younger but I'm really relieved to hear that your daughter had a good day. It gives me some hope.
Mommy is def. going to have a harder time than baby with this. Were you a SAHM before today?

My first day back to work was horrible. I went back last July. My LO was almost 4 months old & I did NOT want to go back to work. At that time, my mom stayed with us Su-Th and watched our LO M-Th; I stayed home with her on Fridays. Anyway, that first day I was a mess. I couldn?t look at my LO without crying. I cried on the train into work, I cried in work?yeah, a mess. I work in the same office as MH, so he took care of me. My mom sent me text message updates & pictures throughout the day, which was nice.
LO went into daycare in Sept (& I was back to work full time) and it was a smooth transition. I couldn?t believe I didn?t cry that first day, considering I was turning her over to someone who was basically a stranger. LO didn?t cry at the drop-off. MH was more affected by the daycare transition than I was, lol. He called the center 2x that day to check on LO.
So far, daycare has been great. MH & I really like the center & haven?t had any problems/issues as of yet. The teachers love our LO to pieces.
That is great!
I wish I had a day care option for DS. We live in a small, really small place where you don't get much of a choice. Only 2 day cares in the town, and they take 2+ years old only. There are three women who do home care (at their home), but I hear more complaints then good words about them. I honestly hope we find a solution soon...
I just moved from Canada about 2 years ago, and my pregnancy happened at just the right time that I was able to claim my Maternity benefits while I was living in the US!! So I got 7.5 months at home. Then when I returned to work my DH was working 12 hr shifts fri-sun and I worked 2nd shift Mon-Thrus so we were able to tag team staying with her. We did take her to an in-home day care for a few hours on Monday's and Friday's so we could catch up on our sleep and to have some 'us' time.
Then DH was laid off in Oct so he has been a SAHD since then. So it has been kind of a combo. It is awesome though because either one of us can comfort her, do bed time etc and she seems to have no preference.
Sounds like you need to open a daycare!!
