Did you try drinking them with milk? Just chew them for a few seconds and take it down with a glass of milk quickly. Sorry, that's the only thing that works for me
Okay, I have no way of knowing if this was coincidental, but I started drinking seltzer water instead of regular water last week and my heartburn as been nonexisitant since I switched...Just an FYI in case anyone's desperate and normal remedies aren't working.
Have you tried the smoothies ones? They aren't as chalky as the regulars. Also, I have found that chewing gum or sucking on hard candy has helped a lot, as much or better than the tums. As a last resort, my dr said taking Zantac is fine, so when I am in major pain I have gone that route.
I wish I could be of more help, but I have been having the same problem. My doctor recommended Maalox, but that is even worse! If it is just the texture that is bothering you and not the taste maybe try a liquid. Although, that would make me absolutely lose it.
Tums are pregnancy category D, so my doctor only lets me take up to 2 a day. I take papaya enzyme and it works really well.
Seriously? I eat 3 at a time several times a day and did my entire first pregnancy as well. Everything I've heard says Tums are perfectly safe. They are listed on my OB's safe meds list. I'm really surprised your doctor told you that.
My heartburn has been so bad it wakes me up at night. My doctor had me start Pepcid this week and it is helping. The acid can actually do damage to your digestive tract and he thought it was important to get under control.

I think that the concern is that they are pure calcium, and too much of anything (even a good thing) can become bad. He's perfectly fine with a couple a day, but if that's not working then we move onto something else. Makes sense to me. I wouldn't keep taking Tylenol or anything else if it wasn't working...
