Up until now my BP has been really good. Always 100 - 120/60-80. Tuesday at my routine appointment my BP was high - in the high 130's/something. It went down back to 126/70something. They had me come back in on Thursday and it was high again - with the second reading being 140/something. No protein in my urine either day and the blood tests all came back fine. The BP isn't THAT high, so no one is very worried yet.
I have to do a 24 urine catch Sunday into Monday, which I am mostly just apprehensive about because I haven't done it before and it sounds like a PITA. We'll be home except for a super bowl party up the road. Any tips, tricks, etc? I know it's immature but the thought of storing a jug of urine in my fridge is not that appealing.
Otherwise I am taking it easy, working from home and staying off my feet within what the MW advised.
Re: High BP, 24 Urine, etc. (question/whine)
I had to do this. It was a pain, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I used a large-mouthed plastic container (like a quart soup container) to catch the pee and then poured it in to the receptacle.
Someone on here suggested the brilliant idea of washing out a 2L soda bottle and then cutting it in half - use the bottom half to catch the pee and the top as a funnel to pour it into the receptacle for the fridge. Genius.
They are a PITA. I always stay home for them. Too annoying to go anywhere - either have to carry a cooler with urine in it, or store it in the fridge wherever you are. Unless you are close enough to walk home to pee?
I don't put mine in the fridge until I am done. I keep the jug/jugs in a cooler in the bathroom and just replace ice as it melts. It is too big of a pain to go to the kitchen every time I need to pee.
Once I fill a jug, then it goes to the fridge until the appointment. Last time I filled the jug they gave me the first day. My total was insane, over 160oz.
Reading PP, absolutely ask for the hat! I would give it a quick rinse in the tub after each use and let it air dry...
I had to do it just this week. It's not that bad, just annoying. Ask for the "hat" or whatever its called because it made it so much easier. You just sit it on the bottom lip of the toilet and put the seat down over it...like a little kids potty. I was at home all day so I just left it there and went, poured it in the jug and went on about my day. I stored mine in the fridge in its own separate area with a towel underneath it.
Take it easy and try to relax. Good luck!
I have stayed home the times I had to do them. I would not want to keep my pee in someone elses fridge. Overnight I use a cooler so I don't have to run the pee to the fridge everytime I get up.
Make sure they give you the "hat" for the toilet, it catches the pee and has sort of a pour spout thing on one side. Also, ask for 2 jugs, I always fill more than one.
If the Dr is too far, go to the grocery store and buy one of the wide mouth giant bottles of water. I think Ice Mt makes a nice big opening. Drink it, then use it
Thats what I did and it was fine. They said I could rinse out any jug, but I'd rather know apple juice is not going to show up in my urine results.
