Names- daycare, school- Best and worst

I'm obsessed with looking at names and what's popular/overused/trendy... What names are common in your LO ones DC or school? What are a few names you DON'T like? (I'm not trying to start anything, don't take it personally. We all have our opinions and style on names) I saw the name Jazzmyne on a school board the other day and thought that was pretty bad. Ky's are VERY over done here in IN- Kylie, Kayla, Kyler (including a billion variations on the spellings). The -en's are over done as well, Aiden, Braiden, Jaiden, Caden.... You get the idea. I REALLLLLY love Scarlette and Tessa for girl names. Our boy will be Miles (my maiden name)

Re: Names- daycare, school- Best and worst

  • Love the name Scarlette!

I don't think I've seen any off the wall names at our school! On her side Sasha is the only other girl, and then there's Colin, Jack, Sterling, Gabriel, Beau, Austin...That's all the ones I can think of. There used to be an Ella, I liked that name too!

I have a nephew named Miles. Love it! Reed isn't in daycare, but I also think the "-en" names are a little overdone in our area too. I always look in the paper at the birth announcements. Lots of Bradens, Cadens, Jaydens, etc.

A name that has become popular that I just don't understand is Maddox. Sorry if there are any LOs here with that name. I think my SIL wants to use it as a middle name if they ever have another baby...

  • I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary besides the spelling.  We have a Mackston and a Paitin.  Don't quite get the spelling of these names, but whatev.

  • M doesn't go to DC, but I just have to share these names.  I may have shared them before, I can't remember.  Anyway, a girl I went to school with named her kids:

    Kailynne
    Alexyiss
    Addacynn
    Koletonn

Talk about misspelled names...... plus the girls all have two middle names, and the little boy has THREE Indifferent  THREE middle names.

  • There is a boy in Hannah's daycare named Caten.

I tutor at an elementary school....sisters Allesya and Denesya stick out.

it's going to be a b!tch when they are older and have to sign legal papers with their full names. also Koletonn? really? Ick!

  • I love the name Tessa. Alexis and Tessa were girls names that we picked out but we thought Alexis sounded like a better older sister name so if we have another girl she will be Tessa :)

Wow these are crazy!  The names are cute but the spellings are awful.  And having 5 names has got to be a major PITA.  Poor kids :(

  • Well, my own name is very popular. It was #1 for the longest time. Almost every time I go shopping I hear some parent screaming the name "Emily!" I actually go by Emmy, but people I work with, or have worked with, know me only by Emily. Devin/Devon are pretty popular here.

I, too, love the name Scarlette. Mostly b/c Gone With The Wind is my favorite movie :)

  • A lot if the aiden, Braden business here. My DDs name is fairly popular (lily) but I don't mind. Even DS' name Max is climbing.  I strongly dislike creative spellings of names. Love Miles and Scarlett.

  • I used to work with a lot of 1st gen american kiddos: Ilya, Sushen, Nandita, Yuankai, Aadhya, Anyi, Yoyo sp?.  But there were Jacksons, Henrys, Emmas, Payton, Landons, Carters, Annie(a), and tons of Sophie(a)s.  Sorry if your DD is some variant of Sofia but all of my kiddos W/that name have seriously turned me off to it.

Our potential next child will be named Johannes (I love love LOVE it) and maybe paired with Samuel...dunno seeing as how I am back and forth about being one and done.  But if the maybe baby is a DD she shall be named Dolly June!

  • Maya's not in DC either, but a family member's ex-GF has a new baby with another guy and they named her Jazzalyn (I'm not sure of the spelling).

I also used to work with a girl named Gorgeous- who had sisters named Adorable and Precious- there was a 4th sister who's name I'm not sure of- but I think it was Beautiful.  Gorgeous said their mom let their father pick all their names.

Holy cow- I've NEVER seen spelling like that!! Koletonn?! Wow... Paitin, is that like Peyton/ Payton? Huh, I've never seen that spelling either. Not a favorite of mine, that's for sure. PRINCESS?!? Really?? Yeah, not doubt about it- Sophie/Sophia is very popular, but DH liked it(he named her) ...haha, thanks for the comments on my siggy pic, she wasn't having it. And she is such a good, happy baby- it just makes the picture that much better :) When we were dating, we'd joke about naming our boy 'Miles', and one night I told him I actually really liked it, and he did too! ( not that we didn't like the name, it's just funny how it started out as a joke... And stuck :) ) it just kills me because we are TTC, and we'd like to have two kids a boy and a girl... But I'd kinda like another little girl, so we shall see I guess

  • DD isn't in daycare, but this is a list of babies I know.

Girls: Abigail (x2), Audriana, Cordelia, Leah, Ava, Lily, Megan, Anna

Boys: Tristan, Harrison (x2), Griffin, Braeden, Isaac, Konner, Noah, Lucas, Hunter, Oliver, Cooper, Mason, Kai, Bryson, Nate

I used to work in a DC and saw a lot of Mia's, Jackson's, and Bella's.

    **I also know a Harper (g) and Peyton (g).

  • Nothing that's really common- she is with maybe 6 other kids at max. There is a Laney, which I think is cute.

I teach high school...and you get some great names on class rosters. There has been: Cliche, De'ja Vu, La-ah (pronounced "la dash ah"), Shithead (pronounced sha-theed), Taquella (pronounced Ta-quay-la). I also have a decent number of Emilys (also my name...I like to think I was named before the trend, hahaha), Sydneys, and Rachels. There is a Harper at school this year and I love her name. Teaching makes naming your child a challenge- sometimes names conjure up bad memories..ek!

  • Cate doesn't go to daycare, but her sisters are in school. We actually just go Valentine's lists, I think the worst are Drayden & Justice (2 of them in one class!!! They are boys). The girls names aren't bad but 2 that stick out as NMS are Bailey (I know like 5 dogs named Bailey!) and Valerie. It still amazes that even with the national popularity of my older girls' names (Isabella & Olivia) they have never had another girl with the same name in their class or team.
  • I just read on FB a few days ago a girl had twins and named them Zaylynn and Zayden (both girls). Def nms.I met an older woman named princess but i think thats already been mentioned.
  • I used to teach dance on Saturdays - I didn't have anything too unusual but I did have 4 sets of sisters (4 families) that were Olivia and Sophia. I had 5 Isabella's and 1 girl named Randall.

AH! There was a news story here about a shooting, and two kids that were in the car (at 1am Indifferent) were named Adorable and Definest.

  • Owen hovered around 50 in terms if SSA popularity in 2010... but in ALL three baby rooms at DC there is an OwenAngry

Here are the other names that I can remember in my son's room and the room next door:

    Girls: Claire, Natalie, Samantha, Maya

Boys: Jack, Hunter, Kai, Kyle, Gabriel, Niko, Bryce

  • In Emily's room, there is only one duplicate name, and it is Christopher. No big deal, a classic name.  The only unusual name is Aniston. Her sister's name is McGuire. I think they were using actors' last names.  Weird for me, but the girls are both cute, so I like them.  I teach and have been noticing there are a lot more Riley's and Bailey's for girls names.  They are cute and all, but make me think of a puppy more than a kid.  I really am drawn to more traditional names.

  • None too crazy in Callie's daycare (infant rooms)...there are a couple Indian families so those are definitely more unique (Aadish, Shrivan). There was a little girl named Riya (Ree-ya) who recently moved up to the toddler room. I LOVE the name. I don't know if it's Indian or just something her parents came up with, but I just love it.

Other names: Christian, Olivia, Jewel, Nathan....don't really know the rest.

Ugh, my coworker's DD is named Maddox.  So NMS!  It didn't seem like her style either, which suprprised me.

As for the names at Ty's DC - nothing too out of the ordinary.  The names I can recall are: Olivia, Maya, Blake, Peyton, Alice, Mackenzie, Addison, Ethan,

Some of the trendy names around here are anything -en/yn ending (Cayden, Braden, Aiden, etc.) and Olivia and Jackson.  I am over the -en names (Just way too many here), but I love Olivia and Jackson.  When we first started discussing kids, like 6 years ago we discussed Jackson as a name, but a few summers ago THREE of DHs coworkers named their sons Jackson so we decided it was a bit much.  I still like it though.

  • In Dexter's class, the kids are Emily, Brooks, Grayson, Abby, Ashley, and Hannah. Sounds about right for a day care at a big  corporation full of middle-class working people.

I work with a girl whose name is Brittanniee. I mean, really.
