DOC Band Graduation!

After 5 months, my son is finally done with his helmet (which corrected his plagiocephaly and brachycephaly)! We are so thrilled and very happy with the results! Here's a link to my blog, which has before and after pics and more details about our journey...

I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has about torticolis, plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, or the DOC band process!

Thanks,

Erica

  • Congrats!  I'm envious.  Our little guy has just outgrown his first one, and we're having to consider a second. Tongue Tied

I'm curious... how old was Jackson when he went into his DOC band?  5 months is a long time.  I can understand you being excited not to have the weekly appointments (or daily cleaning).

  • Wow, that would be a tough decision. We were afraid that we might be in the same situation, but Jackson's growth slowed way down after the first couple of months (which was good because we didn't have to get a 2nd helmet, but bad because he had to be in it for so long).

He was almost 6 months when he got it.

    Good luck!

  • Congrats!!!   My DS is a DOC Band grad--he wore 2 from 12/09 to 4/10 (aged 4.25 months to 8.5 months). You would never know he had severe brachycephaly and moderate torticollis.

unm00red, when my DS outgrew his 1st band after 8 weeks, he was still only 6 months old and I knew he had more growth spurts ahead of him. So I did get the 2nd one, and my insurance did not cover it. I paid OOP for both! But I don't regret it.  It's a hard choice, but you have to do what's best for your family.

  • Congrats! Ds outgrew his first pretty quickly and we opted not to do the second. His shape is still a little off, but in a way that we just didn't feel the band would necessarily fix. We did see a lot of improvement with the one, and I believe it will continue correcting as he gets older.

  • Congrats on your LOs graduation of his helmet. My DD had plagio and she wore a Starband from 8-12 months. We were so happy when she finally graduated. She still has some imperfections, but you could only really tell when you look at her head in the mirror. Her ear and eyes asymmetries are gone.
