I have been EP since day one and up until now, I've been doing good with my supply keeping up with DS demand, and have even built a sizeable freezer stash. Unfortunately it seems like I can't keep up with DS anymore...he takes 7-8 oz at each feeding now (every 3-4 hours) and after his first 2 feedings, I can't produce any more then 5 oz....and tonight I was lucky to get 4 for his last feeding. I feel like my supply is starting to take a nosedive. Anyone else having trouble keeping up with LO's demand? If so what are you doing? I know of all the things you can do to help boost supply, but are you supplementing? I'm going to have to break into my freezer stash (I'm a SAHM so I wouldn't be using it for anything else right now) but once that's finished up, I might have to supplement with formula. If my stash lasted me another month, do you think I could just supplement with purees instead of formula? I just want to avoid spending the $$ on expensive formula.
Re: Supply vs. Demand
I decided to try to increase my supply to build a stash in December. I took fenugreek and blessed thistle (2 pills 3X per day) for just 4 days. My supply increased incredibly. I added in extra pumping to keep up with it and made sure i drank a gallon of water a day. I know it sounds like a lot, but I've found if i don't drink that much water my supply dips. I stopped the herbs and my supply stayed.
Needless to say I am a big supporter of the fenugreek/blessed thistle combo. I only stopped because it seemed to aggravate LOs reflux.
Until this week when i got a horid 24 hour stomach virus and got really dehydrated. I think i am going to do the herbs again for a few days.
