LO why won't you sleep?!!

If your baby sleeps uninterrupted through the night... please don't respond to this post. I don't think I can handle hearing about mom's getting 11-12 hours of baby sleeping Wink

LO was an okay sleeper but it's gone to crap this month. She's refusing to go down for naps, even when she's rubbing her eyes and tired. I've been breaking down and stroller or car napping once a day or letting her sleep in arms again - I thought we were past this (we were getting both naps in the crib prior to this)!!

And nights? Holy hell... when I lie her down she sits up again, and again, and again. I might have lied her back down about 100 times last night over an hour of tears, it was awful. It's like having Terminator as my baby!!

I've seen some huge developmental stuff so I think that's what's effecting her but just wondering if anyone else's 9-10 month mark is pretty rough sleep wise? Any advice or this too shall pass?

  • I'm sorry things are so rough for you right now!

I say, do whatever works to get you guys some sleep.  During the day, will she nap in a wrap?  When my LO is off her schedule this is a life saver for me and DH.  She gets the snuggly comfort of being close, and I still get to pee.

At night, what works for us is having her crib side car to my side of the bed.  She falls asleep and I can just roll her into her spot.  Whenever she is having sleep issues, I can never put her down into her crib- the drop is too far and she wakes up.  With the crib side car, I can just "hug and roll" and snuggle until she is settled.

    Hang in there!

  • We're right there with you.  He was a great sleeper from like 5-8 months...then all of a sudden he's waking up every two hours (or more), will only sleep in my arms (mine - not DH - just me...), and wakes right back up when I lay him in crib.  The only way he'll stay down is if he's in a deep sleep from me rocking/holding him.  So yeah, it's been a lot of nights sleeping for chucks of time in the chair with him.  I'm SO done with it.

We've been trying everything...new sound machine with a projecter thing, overnight diapers, this lavender lotion stuff to put on his feet/chest, teething tablets, etc.  Last night I had a little more success.  He slept from 12:30 to 5:30 straight, which was heaven.  The only thing different we did last night was put a towel under the mattress to angle it a little more, so I don't know if that helped or if he knew how upset I was yesterday morning...but I'll take what I can get!

  • We've been having some troubles as well. I posted on FB I thought there was a 9 month wakeful period that other moms kept secret as a joke. Someone linked this article & while there really wasn't helpful info on getting through it was nice to know I wasn't alone and there really is the sleep regression.

  • Thank you for the reassurance I am not alone... hope you all get some much needed sleep soon! It's tough when LO regresses, we've gone back to rocking her to sleep as well but whatever works right now. That has been my mantra since day one, just survive and whatever works right now because it always changes right?!

  • I was feeling like DS was a newborn again recently, and I just couldn't go back there!  I gave in to the suggestion (under pure exhaustion) from my sister to go Ferber.  It took about 4 days and he not only sleeps through the night but goes down without a fight.  I know it's a very personal choice and do not judge anyone else doing or not doing it, but I feel like as hard as it was for me, it was the right choice for both of us.  We both rest now = happy baby and happy mommy.

    Good luck!

  • Oh geez, it's awful! DS is sleeping in bed with me right now and DH is in the recliner so we could get some sleep. We were planning on transitioning to the crib this week since I can't have TWO babies in our bedroom with me. That's not happening.... It's awful. I've called my MIL so many days to come over and help me I'm so exhausted. He's exhausted at night and yawning and we get in bed, turn the lights out, give him his last bottle, and he promptly sits up and plays with anything he can touch. We're talking at midnight here. Then he wakes up crying or blowing raspberries numerous times through the night and I stick his paci in. It usually works, but the past 2 nights he's regressed to having a middle of the night bottle. I was wondering if there was a 9 month wakeful period also!!

  • Oh thank God, I thought I was the only one.  DS has never been a good sleeper, but lately it's been pure hell.  Not wanting to nap as long, and nighttime sleep is a nightmare!  For the last two weeks he's been up at least three times a night, and I can't just give him a bottle and he'll fall back to sleep like normal.  Now he screams his head off for at least a half an hour.  It got so bad I actually took him to the doctor because I thought he had to be sick or something.  It turned out nothing was wrong with him.  I hope this phase passes soon, it sucks!

  • I'm totally going through this with my DD.  I think she's teething but every night at 10 pm she wakes up and will not settle down.  I didn't know what else to do so I started sleeping with her again (after sleep training her to sleep in her crib)... I'm hoping this is just teething or a phase... I'm exhausted.
