Hey ladies!
DD and I are tagging along on a work trip with DH next week. I'm insanely excited because I grew up in Lynnwood and Shoreline, until my parents decided we just had to stay in Alaska. I haven't been home for a good visit since before DH and I got married 8 years ago, and DD has never been there so I have 4 days to relive my childhood through her eyes, lol. It's been 15 years since I lived there though, and most of my memories are from elementary and high school age so I could use some input on things to do. We arrive on Thursday afternoon, and leave the following Tuesday afternoon. So 2/9-2/14.
We're staying at Hotel Monaco, a couple blocks from the central library. Obviously we'll be walking down to Pike Place (Where DD wants to throw fish sticks at the pig and each other, lol. I love how "We can watch them toss fish at the fish market!" turned into throwing fish sticks at each other. Oh, the mind of a 4yo!). Is the awesome toy store still there?
DH wants to take her to the library, any recs on specific kid things there? I honestly haven't looked much at the website for story times, etc yet. I'm a little worried how she's going to react when we don't get take any books home, but I'm hoping hearing about how mommy used to come here combined with a cool story time or whatever will appease her. I would skip it altogether (due to the not checking out books thing), but it's about the only thing DH really wants to do. We'll probably do this the first day, before DH's conference starts.
We don't have an aquarium here in Austin (although there is a nightclub with a shark tank dance floor, lol; they offer tours to kids during the day which totally cracks me up), so a trip to the aquarium is the only other thing on my non-negotiable list.
She wants to see where I was born (I think it was in N Seattle, I know the street but not the address so I'm waiting on my mom to get back to me on that one, since it was a house) and where I grew up, by the Meadowdale schools. Too bad the elementary itself is no longer the same school, she would totally get a kick out of that! But one day we'll be driving up there for sure. I wanted to go back to Meadowdale Marina, but google maps tells me it's no longer there. :-( We'll only do this if we have other plans that are convenient to a side trip. It's not like we'll get out and play in the yard or anything, lol, and I'm pretty sure the access to my old childhood haunts in Lynnwood are inaccessible if they are even still there.
I also want to take her on a ferry, but I don't have any place in mind to actually go. Any rec's for a good ferry ride? It's the ferry itself I want to take her on, but a good destination at the end would be nice. It doesn't need to be a long trip, considering the only ferry we have in TX is a 4-minute ride that holds like 10 cars. She's seen them in movies and seen pictures of me on them as a kid so she's really excited about it. Maybe some place with an awesome playground or something? Although, considering it's been in the 70's here she might be a little chilly to stay outside, lol. Spoiled Texan and all that, but good lord if it rains whe will be in HEAVEN.
Lastly- I want to take her to either the Seattle Science Center or Seattle Children's Museum. I *personally* want to go to the Science Center more, but I'm not sure if she will enjoy it as much. She's a young 4, and very small for her age if that makes a difference. She is *almost* 30# and 38" tall. I think I remember going to the Children's Museum when I was younger, but I can't really remember. I do know ours here in Austin is NOT worth a visit for an OOT'er. It's okay for residents but really not all that great.
Ooh, ooh! Uwajimaya! This is totally for me, though.
I'm pretty sure we won't have time to do everything, and I'm okay with that. It's just been so long since I've been there and obviously I don't remember a lot of what I did when I was 4!
So, to recap:
Central Library
Pike Place (is there a good breakfast place there?)
Aquarium
Ferry (to where?)
Science Center or Children's Museum?
Uwajimaya
Thoughts? Suggestions? I'll make another post about food, lol.
Thank you!!

Re: Visiting w/ a 4yo... Help?
Sounds like a fun trip! DH and I moved here this past summer and are expecting our 1st so I don't have a whole lot of suggestions, but the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island is fun. If it's clear, there are gorgeous views of Mt. Ranier and Seattle. The ride is about 35 minutes long and the boat has a snack bar, bathrooms, and multiple levels (2 car levels, 2 passenger levels). When you get off the ferry, downtown is within walking distance and has a great bakery and ice cream shop. There's also a Children's Museum near the ferry, though I haven't been to it to know how good it is (Kids Discovery Museum).
Not sure about a good breakfast place at Pike Place Market, but there are multiple places where you can get a pastry (sweet or savory) and of course multiple coffee options. That's what I would do for breakfast.
Hope that helps!
City Pass might be the best way to go https://www.citypass.com/seattle
(Space Needle, Aquarium, Harbor Tour, Pacific Science Center, Experience Music Project, and the Zoo or Museum of Flight. When we have OOT family come we usually do all the city pass stuff in 3 days, so that might be a good option for you.)
