What OTC Prenatals do you guys take?

I've heard plenty of people push the Target (::ducks any oncoming blows for mentioning the dreaded "t" word!::) brand or even flinstones.  Does anyone know which brands are more/less synthetic or 'better' etc in your opinions?  Just curious.

Oh - and also - I have issues with giant horse pills so if you could mention the type of pill and size it is for the brand that would be enormously helpful as you generally can't see the size of the pills through the bottles and it drives me crazy.  Thanks!

  • I take Rainbow Light Prenatal One Vitamins.?

I like them. They are kinda big though.?

  • I don't know about more or less synthetic, but I take Stuart prenatals.  They aren't that big (compared to the Rx ones I tried), they don't taste bad, and they don't make me sick.

Sorry, I can't help you.  I love the Target PNV's... they are nice and small and don't have that gross taste that makes me gag

Oh - I'm not dissing the Target PNV's (I actually just recently bought my first bottle of them but haven't finished my old bottle yet) I just walked past the bottle a few mins ago and made a mental note to ask around here and make sure there wasn't anything about them that other people knew that was less than favorable.

    :-)

  • I don't have the bottle on me, but it's Rainbow Light, but I don't think it's the same as the pp because I take 6 a day.  They are food-based.

  • I take Rainbow Light. My Midwife recommended them. They are horse pills though and I gag every so often!
  • Sorry, I take the Rainbow Light (one a day). I couldn't imagine having to take 6 a day!
  • Whole Foods makes a prenatal vitamin that is supposed to be good.  I haven't tried it yet because I'm on a prescription one, but will try those when I run out.

  • I also take the Rainbow Light Once-A-Days... they are pretty big and did make me sick in my first trimester, but otherwise, they are tolerable.
  • I take New Chapter's "Perfect Prenatal". It's a whole food base and recommended by my midwife- she said her patients who take it rarely have problems with their iron levels. The pills are fairly small because you take three a day (all at the same time though).
  • Have you tried taking them with juice or tea? It makes them easier to take because you cant taste them. I take a big swig of juice then put the pill in my mouth and then swallow. That works really well for me!?
  • I take rainbow light prenatal one-a-day.  I used to take the 6 a day version - they are the same size as the one-a-day's.  They are vegetarian (maybe vegan?) and are recommended by my MW.  You can get them cheap at the vitamin shoppe online.  they are like 2x as expensive at Whole Foods.

I've never had any issues w/ them making me sick, I just switched to the one-a-day's during the 1st tri b/c i got so sick of taking so many pills (i was up to like 11/day w/ supplements and meds!

  • One Source. It's 2 tylenol sized pills. I like that I can split up the dose if I'm feeling sick to my stomach.

And to me they don't taste or smell nearly as strong as the others I've tried. And they come in BIG bottles...so fewer times I have to remember to get refills. LOL.

  • I was taking the Target brand, then ones I got from Whole Foods(not Rainbow Light), and now I use the Trader Joe's brand ones. ?The Target ones work pretty well and are not that big. ?

  • I take Super Nutrition Prenatal one-a-day, it's just the prenatal version of my normal multivitamin.
  • I took Rx while I was pregnant (don't remember the brand). I just finished the big bottle of Target brand, and replaced it with the 'natural' Target brand. I forget what they call it, but it's in a blue bottle and doesn't have synthetic dyes and flavors.
  • I take super nutrition simply one prenatal.

    and the aftertaste is NASTY!

  • I take 2 flintstones and a folic acid pill, it's working out well so far.
