High-Risk Pregnancy

? for Clotting issue ladies from a TTCAler- hemo appt soon

Hi All,

I am currently on a bump break from TTCAL (had a cp in Jan and just found out about these other issues and just need to try think about something else after having to TTA again).   I have been told I have "slighly high" Anticardiolipin iGg (16), and "minor" antithrombin deficiency (70). My proactive OB is sending me to a hemotologist Wed to get his thoughts on treatment for my next pregnancy, and to find out if he thinks I should see a high risk doc, and warned I would prob be giving myself shots twice daily. (I have been blessed to have great results in all other reproductive testing, so we are not expecting any other problems).  I also scored positive for ANA.

What, in your experience, do you think I should be sure to ask the hemotologist?

Thank you for help, and congrats on your pregnancies.  I really hope to join you shortly, and STAY on a pregnancy board!

Hugs!

  • I'm not sure what you should ask the hematologist, but I just wanted to put a little side note about the shots twice daily.  I am currently on Lovenox twice daily after a DVT in November.  Prior to the experience I was terrified of needles.  Then I sucked it up and realized as long as the baby stays happy and healthy I can take the shots.  Honestly, they aren't that bad.  Sure it burns a little when the meds are going in but a few minutes later it's over and you can move on with your day.  Best of luck to you!

  • I'm so sorry for your losses.  Lovenox shots and baby aspirin have been the key to me getting and staying pregnant.  Best of luck!!

  • Ask how high your ANA was. It's expressed as a ratio... a low number, 1:40 or 1:80 is considered by most docs to be a "false positive". A high number, 1:320 or above, could warrant more investigation, especially if you're having other symptoms.

I'm sorry I don't know much about clotting issues (I see a hemo for the opposite problem!), but I can tell you that no one *really* knows what the presence of ANA means, or its role in most diseases or losses. They say that 5% of the population will test positive for ANAs, but only half of those have an autoimmune disease. In people with autoimmune diseases, it can be used to gauge disease activity, but my perception is that most docs don't really pay much attention to it for any other reason.

Also, know that being ANA positive is something that can come and go. I have two autoimmune diseases and I've have my ANA come back as high was 1:640, and then six months later be negative. If you plan a follow-up, it's not a bad idea to have all of these blood tests re-run.
