First day back to work BF comments

Tuesday was my first day back to work. I had almost forgotten how much I hate that place. My friend/coworker has a 1 year old and she breastfed for only about a week. She saw me toting my pump in to work and said, "Oh, you're still breastfeeding? You probably won't do that for much longer." Oh really? Why's that? She must be jealous or something. Then one of my older coworkers asked, "Have you weaned yourself off of him yet?" Like I should have or something... After hearing me say no, she replied, "Oh, you're going to have an anxiety attack today." Excuse me?!?!? Oi. Then later, one of my managers asked me how breastfeeding was going with LO and asked if he was getting enough. She said, "Little boys have a problem getting enough." They do? Since when? Later, one of my favorite older coworkers asked if I was breastfeeding, and then congratulated me, as did another one of my favorite coworkers, which made me feel a lot better after all of the stupid comments. Have you received any flames from coworkers or anyone else for breastfeeding?

Re: First day back to work BF comments

  • Ugh, I am not looking forward to this. I had to hear people's opinions on breast feeding while I was pregnant and they weren't positive. Everyone has an opinion on something, including complete strangers and they aren't welcome. I'm glad you're sticking with what you want to do, I'll be in the same boat in 2 weeks. Just smile while cursing them in your head!

  • Um, I'd be going right to HR.  How long you breastfeed is none of anyone's business.  You are doing what is healthiest for you and your child, and I'd be LIVID if anyone had anything to say about it.

  • Sorry but my boobs, my business! Is it appropriate for me to ask you about your urine output? Nope. I've found that most people only ask you about BFing under the guise of them caring for you/your LO, when all they really want to do is tell you their opinion about it.

uh yea.  i think we need to make a list of comebacks to shut them up.

  • That sucks.  I'm sorry people aren't being supportive.  I am not working, but I get this all the time from my ILs.  They drive me crazy.  When we see them I have our bottles all made and they have just decided that I am giving her formula and I don't bother to correct them anymore.

  • Sorry about the asshats. My most awkward BF/pumping at work moment was when a 9th grade boy asked me what was in my bag and why I was going into the room next door (my pump & to pump).
