Pregnant after IF

IVF Question

Hello ladies.  I am usually a lurker, but I thought maybe you ladies might be able to help me.  I just did my first ivf.  ET was 1/27.  I had felt crampy and bloated and generally just yucky since a few days into stimming.  When I had asked the nurse at my RE's office about hyper stimulation she said "oh yeah, you will have that.  it'll get worse if you get pregnant."  Well here I am, 5dp3dt, and I feel fine.  Almost back to normal.  I am getting really upset because I feel like this means I might not be pregnant.  Beta is scheduled for 2/8.  I know it's really early, but i can't help losing hope.  Maybe you ladies can help give me back at least a little bit of hope?  How did you all feel at this point in your cycles?  Please, please be honest.  I want to know either way.

TIA!  And sincere congratulations on your pregnancies.  I hope to join you soon. :)

Re: IVF Question

  • At that point in the 2 WW, I had gone back to feeling as "normal" as I had felt during IVF. I was of course still bloated but believe that to be because of the medication. I didn't really begin feeling symptoms until the day of my first beta. I had cramping I believed was AF coming and had lost all hope.

It is way too soon to tell anything, but the good news is all hope is not lost. Try not to read  too much into any lull or feeling of a symptom at this point. Good luck to you!!

  • Truthfully I did not have any symptoms and still only get them rarely. The only true symptom I had was the day before the beta when I had a horrible migraine.

    Good luck!!

  • I didn't feel any different from my successful cycle vs the failed ones.  I was so convinced that this cycle was a bust that I already started coming to terms with a child free life (this was going to be our last try).  I know how it feels to try to read into everything you feel or don't feel but each cycle is different and each person is different.  The best advice I can give you is the advice I hated to hear but it is true...try to take one day at a time (on those emotional days, take one hour at a time), try to get some rest and remain as positive as you can.  I hope to see you here soon!  GL!

This was me too. A few days before my beta, I had a total meltdown because I thought for sure I was going to get my period. I even talked to my nurse about what's involved in a FET! I was terribly bloated, and pretty much still am.

  • I am doing my best not to read into any symptoms (or lack thereof).  The thing that I am worried about is actually the opposite.  The nurse said I would feel worse from the hyper stimulation if I got pregnant, but now I feel better than I have since the whole process began.  So does that mean that the hyper stimulation went away because I'm not pregnant, or does it mean that I just got lucky in terms of hyperstimulation?  I have been bracing myself to feel terrible, but I'm just not.  I read somewhere that IF makes you weird.  I think I am definately past that point!  :)

  • I had severe OHSS.  It was EXTREMELY painful and a terrible experience.  I first started to feel uncomfortable at 4dp5dt.  Up until then, I was fine.  By 6dp5dt I was in excruciating pain, beyond swollen, violently throwing up and overall felt awful.  I was admitted to the hospital that day and stayed for 5 days.  I had to be drained 3 times. I don't think there is no way for the nurse to know that you will have OHSS unless it happens. I hope that you are pregnant and that you never have to go through OHSS.    GL!!!

  • I was never hyperstimmed and didn't have a lot of symptoms afterwards. I wouldn't worry.

  • Now, I did my FET a month after my ER, so all the meds were out of my system by then. I didn't have any symptoms until the day I got my BFP. Then, I felt like I was starting my period and I had spotting. When the doc called and told me I was pg., I didn't believe him because I thought he was going to say I was starting my period. So, to answer your questions, I had no symptoms until the day I got a BFP!

  • I'm just wondering why the nurse says that you will have OHSS?

I'm not really sure.  I had been feeling crappy for days before my ER, and they pulled 31 eggs out of me.  I never thought in a million years that I would be upset about feeling better!  But there you have it.  Good ol' IF doing wacky things to our heads.

  • Don't lose hope, it's entirely possible to still get a BFP even without the OHSS symptoms. I had similar number of eggs and I felt like crap from the day of the ER to about 3dp5dt. For the next two days I felt great! I got my BFP at 5dp5dt. And the OHSS symtomps came right back with the BFP. GL!

Well, just because you had 31 doesn't necessarily mean you'll have OHSS.  I had 29 eggs and never had OHSS, although the higher number may increase your chances.  Try not to read too much into it and good luck!

  • To be honest, I felt fine. I still got a little crampy, but otherwise.. nothing. I think right around 3dp6dt I started getting strange cramps, but that's it. And for me they felt absolutely nothing like period cramps, though I know a lot of people get that. It's hard to be sure what's normal and what's baby with IVF because of all the hormones, but don't count yourself out. I felt totally fine.

This was me too! Only it started at 3dp5dt for me, I was in the hospital for the same 5 days and had 3 drains. And because it was so sever we had to cancel my cycle. So be thankful you have no OHSS.

Aslo when we did my transfer my nurse said that if you feel pregnant, dont feel pregnant, it does not matter, that is not an indicator of any thing. Just wait for your blood test. And to be honest I took a pregnancy test at 6dp5dt and had a VERY faint positive, did it again at 9dp5dt and it was for sure positive! Then the blood test confirmed it!

    See below in my siggy...

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!
