This might sound odd, but it really doesn't matter what brand we use (I normally buy the little tummys or babies r us) but ours has to be the dye free, if its the colored, which is usually flavored, Carter will spit it right back out... but if its dye free, which I assume is flavor free (I haven't tasted them) he will take them no problem!

I just use the generic Walgreens brand, dye free. (we tried ones that were cherry flavored and they didn't seem to work as well). We were instructed by our pedi to give them to him before he eats as oppose to what the directions say to give them to him afterwards. ( We tried to give them to him after once but he was already spitting up everywhere so it was pointless). I think they are amazing, DS was a projectile vomiter before we started him on the drops.

We have used both Little Tummy's and Colic Calm. The Colic Calm is actually a gripe water but it is FDA regulated and works great. If I give it to DD when she has the hiccups (which usually make her really mad), they go away within a minute.
I used the Up & Up once and thought it worked well at the time, but after another episode of bad gas I tried Colic Calm. Total difference, and will be using Colic Calm from now on.
Re: which brand of gas drops?
Target brand (Up & Up) works great for us.
