Anyone refinishing their crib?

I posted awhile back that I was debating whether I wanted to use our old crib from DS or get a new one due to all of the new safety regulations now.  I started doing some research into making the drop side not function anymore (looking for the kit for mine) and found out that it was actually recalled.  They are sending us a brand new one in only two weeks.  Yay!  I am thrilled to get a new crib for free.  The only thing is that I don't get any choice in what I get.  They emailed me a picture of the new one.  The style is pretty similar, but I had white before and now they are sending me walnut.  No biggie except that I have other white pieces that I was going to use with my old one.  I am debating whether I want to just get a few new matching pieces or try refinishing it.  I have seen some blog posts about it where it didn't look too difficult and they all said spray paint was the way to go to avoid streaks.  Any good websites you all know of?  Anyone refinished any furniture?

Re: Anyone refinishing their crib?

  • I'm refinishing a antique dresser for the baby room. I've done a ton of research and below are a couple websites that I've found for how to do it:

    https://www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/04/how-to-paint-furniture/

     https://www.thefrugalgirl.com/2009/03/how-to-paint-wooden-furniture/

Now, these all apply to furniture other than cribs, but I'd figure its along the same lines. I think its a great option rather than buying all new furniture. You could even paint another color if you didn't want to do white. I will say that I have just gotten started, and the amount of sanding is A LOT. But I think its well worth it to put some work into it, and not spend $100's of dollars- and gives me a project to keep me busy!

    Good luck!

  • MY DH refinished a whole slew of dressers and furniture for our house so it all matched (I love cherry furniture and am picky about things matching). It is very doable however it is also very TEDIOUS. Especially when there are crevices and details that are hard to reach. I've also read that using a tool can damage the furniture and so its best to do it by hand with sandpaper (ugh!)...
