So I am currently TTC and I live in New Orleans... but in May/June, my DH and I will be moving to Baltimore, where he'll be doing his residency. I'm wondering if any of you could recommend a good High Risk OBGyn or a Maternal and Fetal Medicine Specialist in Baltimore? I have a Unicornuate Uterus so I will most likely need to see an MFM in addition to a regular OB.
Thanks!
Re: High Risk OBs in Baltimore?
Johns Hopkins Hospital of course is the big name in the area. Only problem is you have to pay for parking. Blah. I had trouble getting appointments there (because it is so popular). So last time I was preggers with mono/di twins and went to the MFM at St. Agnes Hospital in Catonsville (and I had LOTS of appointments). I really liked Dr. Lantz. I'm going there again for this pregnancy. I'm sure others could recommend other hospitals. But my experience at St. Agnes was great. And they have free valet parking which is great if your OB has urged limited physical activity, etc. You can just drive up to the front door (and request wheel chair if necessary). Good luck!
ETA: Doy, sorry read your OP a little fast. Dr. Lantz is a perinatologist to monitor your high risk pregnancy. I see the OBs at Johns Hopkins Community Physicians in Howard County. They specialize in high-risk pregnancies.
I saw Dr. Judith Rossiter-she was actually the MFM that "The LIttle Couple" wife traveled to Baltimore to see. She is out of St. Joseph's Medical Center in Towson MD.
I delivered at Greater Baltimore Medical Center-and was hospitalized on their High Risk unit and had nothing but awesome experiences each time I was there for the twins. I used a regular OB-the OB/GYN specialists of MD. They have offices in Lutherville and Owings Mills-and what I liked about them was there was never an answering service-I was able to call the on-call OB straight on their cell phone. Also, they didn't share coverage. I had a *really* high risk pregnancy, and it went extremely well. My OB's would sit and talk with me about whatever when they came into see me when I was on hospital bedrest-they were really amazing.
If you have any questions-please feel free to ask!
Thank you so much for all of your recommendations!
My husband is going to be doing his residency at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore (in Ophthalmology), but I haven't heard great things about their L&D. GBMC seems to be the place to go in Baltimore... so I'll probably try to check out some of the doctors there.
Luckily (or unluckily?) I'm not pregnant yet, but we are TTC and I hope to be Preggers soon. We should be in Baltimore in May or June, so if any of you would like to get together for coffee or lunch, or just to show me around town, that would be awesome!
I literally just was told today that I now have GD and am high-risk, so I have no labor story to share, but I see a regular OB at OBGyn Specialists of MD, and they have been incredible so far. I would highly recommend them. I am also delivering at GBMC, specifically because of their reputation/NICU/various birth stories I've heard from friends/relatives. (And this is considering that my cousin is a L & D nurse at St. Agnes too!) I've already been in GBMC's L & D triage once so far this pregnancy, and they were fantastic. I've also been to their Prenatal Genetic Diagnostic Center for a few followup scans (other issues with the baby), and everyone was incredibly informative/nice as well. A friend also recommended that if I did have a high-risk pregnancy and needed a MFM, she would recommend Claire Weitz @ GBMC. Hope that helps!
I have also heard good things about Claire Weitz as well! I never actually got to meet her-but she did a lot of my monitoring when I was in the hospital.
I started off at St. Joe's because I was originally having triplets, but when I lost baby C, I decided to switch OBs.
I know how hard it is to move to a new area because of DH's job-we will always move wherever DH's job takes us-luckily mine is pretty flexible and a good job market! I can PM you my email address if you would like to email with any questions!
