Update...in L&D for now

The internet access from my phone sucks here so hence the late posting...after my appt. this afternoon, they decided to admit me to L&D for 24 hour observation, as the specialist confirmed LO is measuring small...2 lbs. 6 oz. and there is def a blood flow issue in umbilical cord. They gave me another steroid shot for his lungs and also started me on procardia just a little while ago for BH contractions, I guess to be on the safe side and eliminate any constricting in the cord flow. Everything has looked pretty good overall since I got here, and it was sounding like they would likely send me home tomorrow afternoon, but the nurse recently told me they may now decide to observe me longer because LO's heart rate dipped 3 times tonight...she said it was probably just because I was on my side and he was moving, but better to be safe. So I guess we'll see tomorrow. My baby shower is actually on Saturday so it would be nice to be able to go of course! Fingers crossed I get to leave by Friday and LO continues to do well. I had a pretty rough time when they first admitted me...this has all been so sudden. I just want LO to be OK and to continue to grow. It sounds like even if they have to deliver him now he will be alright but with him being smaller I of course can't help but worry. Thank you for keeping us in your T&P!

  • Aw, I'm sorry you're stuck in there for so long. Hopefully by tomorrow they'll find you fit enough to go home...it would be awesome to attend your own baby shower (with a mind clear of such worries).

Keep us updated! Hope you get some sleep tonight!

  • Poor thing. Take it easy, enjoy the little "break" for now and slow down to help LO cook a bit longer. I hope they get everything straightened out and that the procardia helps. It's helped me a lot with the contractions. Hang in there! Hope you get to leave in time to be showered on Saturday, but take it easy if you do.

  • I am sorry you are going through this. I hope that they give you the ok to go home today. I think being home and resting will make you feel a little better too. I also hope you get to enjoy your shower on Saturday with no worries on your mind. Good luck today!
  • Oh no- hoping you were able to get some sleep last night and that everything improves and you can go home. Sending good thoughts your way and hoping lo stays in a little bit longer. thinking of you- keep us posted!
  • Oh no!  The silver lining is that they at least caught it early enough to intervene.  Sounds like they're on a positive track with your little peanut....hope he gets to stay in and bake a little longer!

  • aww, sorry you are under such stress right now. I hope he can continue to grow on the inside, but that is great they are watching closely and will take him before anything tragic could happen. Hope you can attend your baby shower. Grow, baby, grow!

  • Thinking of you!! Both my babies are small (2lb7oz girl and 2lb11oz boy at 30w). I have serial u/s now, cord checks, fluid checks, and NST's. My babies have no issues they are just thinking they are small in general (I had an egg donor and she was only 5'2", 105). I'm sure they will follow your lil one very closely, if they are not growing or having a lot of dsels that's when they would probably realize the baby is better outside then in!! I hope you get some more time to let LO grow and it's great that they gave you the shots!! My sister was a 2lb11oz, 28 weeker, 22 years ago who had the steroids. She is perfectly healthy and had a very uneventful stay in the hospital.
